The Institute for Accelerator Physics and Technology (IBPT) conducts research across a broad range of electron acceleration concepts, from large-scale accelerator infrastructures to compact laser-plasma accelerators. We develop and operate state-of-the-art accelerators and conduct research into innovative new apporaches and next-generation technologies.

Your Tasks

  • Research and development of ultracompact particle accelerators for cancer therapies of the future
  • Conduct independent scientific research in the field of laser-plasma particle acceleration, including planning and execution of experiments as well as interpretation of experimental results
  • Design, construction, and operation of scientific setups
  • Evaluation and documentation of research results
  • Participation in the science program of the research group
  • Preparation and presentation of scientific results at conferences and in peer-reviewed journals
  • Contribute to laser-plasma simulations

Your Profile

  • Ph.D. in physics or a related field (e.g., optics, electrical engineering), ideally with a focus on laser physics, plasma physics, or accelerator physics
  • In-depth knowledge of laser-plasma interactions, accelerator physics, and electron beam optics
  • Experience in experimental research and development (R&D) in the field of laser-plasma particle acceleration
  • Proven scientific achievements demonstrated by outstanding publications in the field, presentations at (international) conferences, and invited talks
  • Several years of experience working with multi-terawatt laser systems
  • Experience in the design, construction, and operation of optical setups for terawatt laser experiments
  • Proficient knowledge of data analysis and scientific evaluation (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or similar)
  • Ability to work independently and in a structured manner, while contributing effectively to interdisciplinary teams
  • Fluency in English, with excellent written and verbal communidation and presentation skills
