Institute for Quantum Materials and Technologies (IQMT)
Job description
In the Inelastic Photon Scattering group of the Institute of Quantum Materials and Technologies (IQMT) we are looking for 2 PhD students who will research the properties of the pressure tuning of quantum materials. The selected candidates will investigate the interplay between charge ordering and other competing electronic phases in selected families of quantum materials by probing their response to elastic tuning (chemical, hydrostatic and uniaxial pressure). The projects are proposed within the framework of the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 288 „Elastic Tuning and response of Electronic Quantum Phases of Matter“.
The positions include the following tasks:
- Research work for the single-crystal growth of quantum materials and for their characterisation using thermodynamic, transport and X-ray diffraction techniques
- Performing photon scattering experiments on these crystals at variable temperature and pressure conditions. This also includes experiments at large-scale research facilities
- Presenting and publishing the research results at conferences, scientific workshops and scientific journals
Starting date
01.04.2025
Personal qualification
- You have a completed university degree (Master’s) in the field of physics
- Solid knowledge of the physics of condensed matter
- Basic knowledge in spectroscopy and/or high-pressure techniques would be an advantage
- Working proficiency in English
