Description
We are looking for an early-career researcher who will represent pioneering electrolysis and electrosynthesis technologies in research, academic education, and innovation. Applicants should have expertise in one or several of the following fields:
- Technologies for electrochemical production or conversion of hydrogen, other fuels, or chemicals.
- Experimental or model-based analysis of these technologies or systems.
- Design, optimization, or operation of novel electrolyzers.
- Integration of electrolyzers in energy grids or chemical production facilities.
We offer a variety of cooperation options within IAM, ETIT, and with other KIT Departments. In addition, we would like to emphasize the opportunity to participate in Helmholtz research programs and in activities of the KIT Energy Center and Energy Lab.
In the area of academic education, you will be involved in existing and newly established German and English study programs offered by the KIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology as well as in related programs offered by other Departments of KIT. Besides courses in the fields covered by the tenure-track professorship, this will also include basic lectures in electrical engineering and information technology. You will execute university tasks with a teaching obligation of 6 hours per week per semester, if you have been evaluated positively. In other cases, your teaching obligation will be 4 hours per week per semester.

Our team would be happy to welcome a researcher with internationally recognized scientific qualification and reputation, very good didactic skills, and leadership competence.
Applicants should have acquired an externally evaluated junior research group (e.g. ERC Starting Grant, DFG Emmy Noether Junior Research Group), less than half of the funding period of which has elapsed at the time of publication of the present vacancy notice.
International publications, acquisition of third-party funding, and active participation in the work of our academic bodies are part of the duties of the professor. Moreover, initiation of collaboration projects with industry and transfer of research findings to application are desired.
Employment is subject to Art. 14, par. (2) of the KIT Act in conjunction with Art. 51 LHG Baden-Württemberg (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges) as well as to the Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-track Professorships at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

Contract duration
Employment as a civil servant for a fixed term (Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit) or salaried employee (Angestelltenverhältnis) will be limited to six years. An interim evaluation will be made before the expiry of the third year. At the end of the six years, a final evaluation will take place.
The evaluation procedure and evaluation criteria are outlined in the Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-track Professorships at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Specific interim and final evaluation criteria will include independence, originality of research, scientific visibility, publications in renowned journals, acquisition of third-party funding, transfer of research results to application, excellent teaching evaluations, successful supervision of graduation theses (B.Sc./M.Sc.) and doctoral researchers, as well as participation in the work of academic bodies.
In case of a positive final evaluation, you will be appointed full university professor (W3).
