Professorship (W 3) Experimental Astroparticle Physics
The University of Wuppertal is a dynamic, networked and research-oriented campus university. Collectively, more than 26,000 researchers, academic staff and students face the challenges of society, culture, education, economics, technology and the environment.
The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in Experimental Astroparticle Physics. The position will be based in the School of Mathematics and Natural Science. We are looking for an outstanding personality who will continuously develop this area in research and teaching.
DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- You are a leading expert with an internationally visible research profile and a strong commitment to teaching.
- You contribute to the basic teaching in physics in German and English language. You develop concepts and formats for new courses. You are committed to teaching in international study programmes.
- Possible research areas include, amongst others, high-energy astroparticle physics, dark matter, fundamental questions at low energies and gravitational waves.
- The key research focus of experimental astroparticle physics in Wuppertal is currently on cosmic radiation, the non-thermal universe and neutrino physics. The astroparticle group is a member of the SFB1491 “Cosmic Interacting Matter”. With your research, you will strengthen these areas or establish new research areas of experimental astroparticle physics that are not yet represented, including new collaborative research projects.
- Your research will also connect to existing research areas of the existing working groups in the physics department, and you will initiate collaborations.
- International orientation (e.g. stays abroad, international collaborations, talks at international conferences).
- Acquisition, coordination, and management of larger third-party funded projects.
- Proven leadership skills in science.
- Proficiency in the German language (at least level B2) or willingness to acquire adequate proficiency within two years.
- Proficiency in the English language (at least level B2).
- The successful candidate is expected to actively support academic self-governance at the university.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed university degree in physics or a closely related field.
- Special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the outstanding quality of a doctorate; a topic relevant to the advertised position is desirable.
- Further relevant scientific achievements performed during a first professorship include junior professorships, habilitations, employment as a research assistant at a university or at a non-university research institution, and scientific positions in business, administration, or another social field in Germany or abroad.
- Pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or, exceptionally, demonstrated by excellent performance in the appointment procedure.
You are able to demonstrate your qualification for the position by your outstanding publication record in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals, international orientation (e.g. research abroad, international collaborations), and the independent acquisition and management of third-party-funded projects. Please enclose relevant certificates and supporting documents with your application.
At the University of Wuppertal, we appreciate individual and cultural differences of our employees and support gender equality, equal opportunities, reconciliation of family and working life. Applications from persons of any gender and persons with disabilities are highly welcome. In accordance with the Gender Equality Act of North Rhine-Westphalia, women will be given preferential consideration unless there are compelling reasons in favour of an applicant who is not female. The same applies to applications from disabled persons, who will be given preference in the case of equal suitability.
