In the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology in the Electronics Technology Group at the Ilmenau University of Technology (TU Ilmenau, Germany) is a vacancy for a
Research assistant (f/m/d)
as soon as possible.
Limited signal integrity, scalability, thermal load capacity and efficiency are currently limiting the transfer of experimental superconducting quantum circuits into commercial applications.
The KeraMiQ research project (funding by BMBF) is investigating the use of ceramic multilayer circuit carriers for the realization of quantum electronic systems. The surface architecture of ceramic multilayer circuit carriers is to be adapted and extended to include integrated passive elements in order to achieve the lowest losses and highest signal integrity. With this approach, the project is doing pioneering work in the field of superconducting device packaging. The team at the Department of Electronics Technology draws on its extensive expertise in the realization of multilayer ceramic circuits (LTCC) as well as cutting edge technologies at the Centre for Micro and Nanotechnologies.
Have we piqued your interest? Then support us in the realization of superconducting interposers for qubit circuits.
Your job tasks include:
- Research into the material behavior of ceramic sintered materials at low temperatures (electrical, dielectric, thermomechanical)
- Evaluation of different technologies (thick film, electroplating, thin film) for the realization of ceramic interposers
- Analysis of the interaction between thermomechanical behavior, electrical material parameters (permittivity, conductivity) and dimensional change at low temperature
- Evaluation of material-specific surface architectures at low temperatures
- Preparation of scientific publications in high-ranking international journals and participation in international conferences
Your profile
For being part of the selection process is needed:
- Completed scientific university dDegree (Master of Science or diploma (Univ.)) in microsystems engineering, micro- and nanotechnology, microelectronics, physics or a comparable specialization
- Confident written and spoken German and English skills
Following competences are desirable:
- Physical understanding of superconductivity
- Knowledge in material science of glass and sintered materials
- Microtechnological experience and methodological expertise in experimental design
- Knowledge of system engineering and signal transmission
- Knowledge of electronic circuits, especially high-frequency technology
- Ability to work in an international and interdisciplinary team
- Enthusiasm for the topic and ability to work self-taught
Please provide evidence of the qualifications required for the job by certificates and references.
In principle, the job is also suitable for part-time employment. The extent to which a part-time request can be granted, in particular with regard to the location and scope of part-time work, will be examined on the basis of the needs of the service.
What we offer you:
- attractive remuneration according to collective agreement (as per TV-L) incl. granting of a special annual payment
- vacation entitlement of 30 days in the calendar year and additional days off on 24 / 31 December
- flexible working time model
- VBL – pension scheme in the public sector
From individual advancement with a wide range of continuing education opportunities to a variety of health and recreational offerings, you can expect an appreciative working environment at a renowned university at TU Ilmenau. In addition to an attractive, family friendly working hour’s model, you will also benefit from advantages such as the use of the dining halls of the Studiendenwerk Thüringen, as well as participation in several attractive sport offers from the university owned sport centrum.
