Sector: Pharma | Drug Discovery | Human Genetics
We are supporting the search for a Principal Scientist in Human Genetics, a high-impact role embedded in a forward-thinking genetics group.
This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of genomics-driven drug discovery, translating large-scale human genetic data into novel therapeutic concepts across multiple disease areas, including cardio-renal-metabolic, immunology, and oncology.
This role sits at the interface of advanced statistical genetics and translational science. You will lead efforts in target identification, biomarker discovery, and patient stratification using biobank-scale datasets like UK Biobank, FinnGen, and other large clinical cohorts. Your expertise will help shape strategic scientific direction and drive programmes toward first-in-class therapies.
As a Principal Scientist, you will take the lead on methodological innovation and data interpretation and provide cross-functional leadership, manage projects and stakeholders, mentor others, and offer valuable strategic insights.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive target and biomarker discovery using large-scale population genomics and clinical cohort data.
- Develop and implement novel computational strategies to validate findings and translate them into therapeutic hypotheses.
- Use GWAS, QTLs, and multi-omics data to characterise gene function in disease-relevant tissues and cell types.
- Collaborate with internal research units and external partners across academia and biotech.
- Contribute to strategic scientific direction in genomics and disease translation.
- Lead cross-functional translational projects and shape strategic initiatives.
- Be a champion for novel methodologies, offering thought leadership and influencing key stakeholders.
- Provide domain expertise in one or more therapeutic areas aligned with the company’s portfolio.
Key Requirements:
- PhD in Statistical Genetics, Genetic Epidemiology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related fields.
- 2 years+ of post-PhD experience in industry and deep domain knowledge in translational biology.
- Must have experience in a commercial, industry (biotech, pharma) setting - identifying new targets
- Proven expertise in statistical genetics, data integration, and human genomics.
- Hands-on programming skills (e.g., R, Python) and experience working with biobank-scale datasets.
- Strong communicator and collaborator within matrix environments.
If you are looking to help shape the future of drug discovery, in an organisation focused on improving patients lives, apply today to be considered for this role.
