- Grid Strategy & Origination. Lead early-stage grid feasibility and network capacity screening to inform site selection and acquisition due diligence; define each project's connection strategy (connection points, voltage levels, technical/commercial trade-offs) and flag cost, timeline and technical risk ahead of investment decisions.
- Connection Applications & Offers. Review and critically evaluate grid connection offers and technical studies; lead negotiation of offers and connection agreements with network operators and partners through to signature; manage grid-related payments, securities and milestone obligations to keep agreements in good standing.
- Stakeholder & Regulatory Engagement. Build and maintain relationships with European TSOs/DSOs, regulators, consultants and contractors; monitor grid code reforms and market rule changes across markets and communicate implications to development and engineering teams; coordinate external grid consultants and build the consultant panel for expansion markets.
- Cross-Functional Coordination. Work closely with the Lead Electrical Engineer, engineering team and development partners to ensure connection requirements are embedded in project design and layout; provide grid input for planning/consenting; represent the grid function in cross-functional reviews with commercial, planning and finance.
- Portfolio Governance & Scalability. Provide portfolio-level reporting on connection status, risks and milestones to leadership; establish scalable engineering processes, document control and design review gates fit for a multi-market development platform.
Key REQUIREMENTS
- Experience. 5+ years in grid connections within renewables/BESS development, a TSO/DSO or grid consultancy; demonstrated track record managing connection applications, offer evaluation and agreement negotiation in Germany or the UK (both ideal); pan-European experience preferred, ideally taking projects from feasibility to a signed connection agreement.
- Technical & Market Knowledge. Working knowledge of BESS system architecture (PCS, DC/AC coupling, containerized design, thermal management, evolving chemistries) and HV/MV electrical design; strong grasp of grid codes in Germany (VDE-AR-N 4110/4120/4130) or the UK (G99/G100, NESO, DNO/ICP); comfort reviewing technical studies (load flow, fault level, compliance); familiarity with DIgSILENT, PSS/E, PSCAD, ETAP, AutoCAD a plus.
- Qualifications. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy or related discipline (equivalent practical experience considered); Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards it, strongly preferred.
- Commercial & Stakeholder Skills. Strong commercial acumen to assess connection cost implications and negotiate favorable terms; excellent stakeholder management and communication, able to translate technical/regulatory detail for non-technical audiences (investors, planners, landowners) and operate autonomously across jurisdictions.
- Mobility & Languages. Willingness to travel across UK/European project sites and to key partners in China; fluent English required.
