Help us use technology to make a big green dent in the universe!
Kraken powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy.
We create the technology that redefines utilities and unlocks a new energy system of the future. By optimising renewable generation, building a more intelligent grid, and empowering utilities to deliver an exceptional customer experience, our operating system is transforming the industry worldwide.
It’s an incredibly exciting time to work in energy. Join us on our mission to improve the lives of ONE BILLION humans within the decade and shape a cleaner, better future for everyone.
AI is a key investment area for Kraken Technologies. You’ll join Autonomous Agents, the team building AI-powered customer service for the energy industry.
We connect conversational AI to Kraken’s customer platform so agents can do more than answer questions: they can use account information and approved tools to resolve real customer needs, like understanding a bill or submitting a meter reading, and hand over to a person, with full context, when it matters.
We’re launching autonomous agents with our utilities clients and the demand is growing quickly. The team is moving from initial trials to long-term production use, and we’re scaling from client-specific builds to a reusable product that can serve many clients. We’re growing the team to make that happen.
Where You'll Fit In
You’ll join a cross-functional team of around 10 engineers, alongside product and machine learning specialists, working closely with Kraken platform teams. The work spans two connected areas, and you’ll contribute to both:
- Build: the reusable core of the product. This covers client-agnostic agent journeys and tooling, MCP interfaces into Kraken, email, messaging and voice capabilities, and the observability, feature toggles and guardrails that let us roll out safely.
- Implementation: taking that core to individual clients. You’ll work with client teams to understand their customer journeys, configure and extend what we’ve built, and feed what you learn back into the shared product.
This is a hands‑on engineering role. You’ll work alongside senior engineers and leads who will support your growth, while owning meaningful pieces of work from the first few months.
What You’ll Own
- Connect the dots: Investigate customer support queries, get to grips with regulatory and business processes, and turn them into clear technical plans.
- Bring agents to life: Build integrations between Kraken, Model Context Protocol (MCP) interfaces and our AI agent setup, using Python on the Kraken side and TypeScript on the agent side.
- Build once, reuse everywhere: Spot patterns across customer journeys and client needs, and turn them into reusable, client-agnostic components rather than one‑off fixes.
- Make it safe and reliable: Build authentication, permissions, validation and human handoff into the design, and help us test and monitor behaviour that is less predictable than traditional software.
- Roll out with confidence: Ship features behind toggles, tested and documented, so they can be introduced gradually across clients and teams.
- Work with clients and teammates: Take part in client conversations, explain technical details clearly, document decisions and keep your commitments on track.
- Operate what you build: Contribute to dashboards, monitoring and runbooks so the services you ship are observable and supportable in production.
What You Bring To The Party
- Solid software engineering: You have shipped and supported production software, and you’re comfortable with testing, code review and working in a team codebase.
- Python and TypeScript: You write clean, maintainable code in both and are happy moving between tools and environments.
- Problem‑first thinking: You take time to understand the problem before jumping to the first solution.
- Curiosity about AI: You’re interested in LLMs, autonomous agents and MCP, and in how to give agents the right context and tools. Hands‑on experience is great, but you don’t need to have all the answers.
- Customer and client awareness: You’re comfortable talking to non‑engineers, asking good questions and translating messy real‑world processes into software.
- Reliable delivery: You’re organised, write clear documentation and follow through on what you take on.
- Learning agility: You welcome feedback, ask questions when things are ambiguous and enjoy learning alongside others in a field that changes fast.
What Success Looks Like
- Delivery: You ship well‑scoped features and integrations that make it into production and are used by real clients.
- Reusability: Your work strengthens the shared product, so the next client is easier to onboard than the last.
- Trust: Agents you help build behave safely, resolve customer needs correctly and hand over to people when they should.
- Growth: You take on increasing ownership and become a go‑to person for part of the platform.
Bonus Points
- AI engineering: Building with LLMs, agent frameworks or MCP servers
- Conversational AI: Experience with customer service automation, voice or messaging channels
- Evals and monitoring: Testing, evaluating or monitoring non‑deterministic systems
- Backend: Django
- Observability: Datadog, Sentry
- Client‑facing experience: Working directly with customers or partners on technical delivery
