Offer Description The University of Arts Linz invites applications for a full-time position as University Professor of “Artistic Practice and Society (Teacher Training Programme)” at the Institute of Art and Education starting on 1 October 2027 according to Section 98(1) of the Austrian Universities Act (UG 2002). The gross monthly salary of €6,713.30 (minimum salary under the collective bargaining agreement, as of 1 January 2026) is based on Section 49(1) of the collective bargaining agreement. The possibility of a higher salary can be part of the appointment negotiations. The contract term is initially limited to 5 years. Permanent employment is possible.

The professorship in “Artistic Practice and Society (Teacher Training Programme)” focuses primarily on the development of artistic practice in teaching and research across the three teacher-training programmes offered at the University of Arts Linz (Art and Design, Technology and Design, and Media Design and Digital Literacy), as well as on exploring the role of artistic practice in contemporary society. To head the corresponding department, the University of Arts Linz is seeking a person with outstanding artistic and pedagogical qualifications who will help shape the Institute of Art and Education as part of a committed team of artists and art educators.

The successful candidate is expected to represent an artistic approach that engages with social issues, material cultures, and contemporary processes of transformation, grounded in a strong theoretical foundation. The starting point of this approach is an expanded understanding of art as a form of social practice that, in diverse social spaces and together with its stakeholders, opens up new ways of thinking, perceiving, and acting, while also challenging hierarchies of techniques and media.

In the area of teaching, the successful candidate is responsible for introducing artistic approaches that combine intermedial and process-based methods of working, as well as collaborations extending beyond the field of art. Through a reflective engagement with materials and contexts, aesthetic, social, and ecological issues are brought together within artistic processes and further developed conceptually through formats intended for different audiences.

The University of Arts Linz pursues an anti-discriminatory hiring policy and is committed to equal opportunities and diversity. The University strives to increase the proportion of women among the academic, artistic, and general university staff, especially in leadership positions, and therefore explicitly invites qualified women to apply. In the case of equal qualifications, women shall be given priority. Applicants with migration experience and/or a migration background and applicants with disabilities are explicitly encouraged to apply.

Applicants are not entitled to compensation for any expenses arising from the application process. By submitting your application, you expressly agree that the data you provide will be processed and used as part of the university's internal application process.
