Leibniz Information Centre for Economics, Kiel

Our department D1 - Information Systems and Publishing Technologies is responsible for the software development and support of several ZBW services, including our information portal EconBiz, our open access publication service EconStor, various full-text repositories, automated metadata management, the Standards Thesaurus for Economics, digital long-term archiving and our homepage. Furthermore, it maintains infrastructures for research data management, including an archive for journal-based research data and NFDI services. Finally, the department supports project-based transfer of software-based research results to productive services.

In particular for the consolidation of infrastructures for research data management, we are looking for you at our Hamburg or Kiel location as soon as possible.

The position is located in Hamburg or Kiel (depending on the applicant's preferences), Germany, and will start as soon as possible. This is a full-time position (currently 38.7 hours per week), part-time work is possible to a certain extent. We offer a contract that is initially fixed to a period of 5 years in accordance with § 14 Absatz 1 Teilzeit- und Befristungsgesetz (TzBfG), with remuneration based on the public sector pay scale at grade EG 13 TV-L.

Your tasks

  • Maintenance of development of our software for operating our archive for journal related research data based on CKAN and Python.
  • Configuration, administration and development of our cloud-based infrastructure for research data provided within the BERD@NFDI consortium, which applies IvenioRDM.
  • Maintenance of SPARQL endpoints for querying Linked Open Data.
  • Supporting at developing and providing infrastructures for managing and publishing ZBW's own data according to our policy (including training data for machine learning applications).
  • Quality assurance, testing, documentation and publishing of your software, preferably as Open Source.

Your profile

Essential qualifications/skills:

  • Master or diploma in computer science, information technology, or in a related technical field, or in a data-driven academic discipline with a strong orientation towards software development.
  • Commitment to the aforementioned topics, particularly a solid interest in data infrastructures for science and research.
  • Profound knowledge of at least one higher contemporary programming language (preferably Python) and experience with programming within complex software projects that are particularly concerned with web development.
  • Experiences with managing software by continuously integrating new developments into productive service environments, and by automating build and deployment workflows for updates and releases.
  • Experiences with (collaborative) software development and source code management by means of e.g. Git and software documentation, profound Linux skills.
  • Cooperative team player who is familiar with different stakeholders.
  • German language skills both in conversation and writing, alternatively corresponding English language skills.

We expect you to be able to go on business trips and day trips to the respective other location of ZBW.
