23. January 2025
Application period from 23. January 2025 until 20. February 2025
Reference Number 85/12/24
The research group Potato Quantitative Genetics exploits the genetic resources stored in the IPK gene bank for breeding purposes to increase genetic gain in potato. We aim to develop quantitative genetic methods to identify and characterize positive alleles and allele combinations in genetic resources of potato as well as accumulate them in the breeding process. Therefore, we are conducting a project to characterize the genotypic and phenotypic diversity of the potato genetic resources (PGR) IPK gene bank.
Responsibilities:
- Assess the intra- and interspecific genetic diversity of PGR based on molecular genetic data.
- Assess the diversity of PGR based on hyperspectral imaging.
- Report your work in scientific journals and oral presentations.
Your qualifications and skills:
- You hold a MSc in plant science, crop science, biology, or related field.
- You have deep knowledge in diversity analyses/quantitative genetics and good skills in data processing.
- You are interested in image processing.
- You have experience in molecular genetics lab techniques.
- You have excellent communication skills in English (German is a plus).
- You are willing to collaborate with researchers from different disciplines.
You fit to us:
- If you have a strong interest in genetic resources and diversity studies.
- If you have strong scientific curiosity and motivation.
- You have very good organizational and teamwork skills, initiative, flexibility, and resilience.
We offer you:
- A varied, challenging and interesting job in an international and multi-disciplinary institute with expertise on biostatistics, quantitative genetics, plant genomics, molecular genetics, plant breeding, bioinformatics, and plant physiology working on current topics of breeding methodology and crop genetics.
- A collegial working atmosphere.
- Collaboration with scientists from the Institute for Breeding Research on Agricultural Crops of the JKI.
