The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). It also maintains a research station with further locations in Dedelow and Paulinenaue.

The project “EOAgriTwin” focuses on creating a comprehensive virtual replica of agricultural systems and improving the understanding of cropping systems under multiple stressors (biotic and abiotic). To support the activities of the project we are offering a full time position as soon as possible limited to till November, 30 2026 at our location in Müncheberg as

Research associate (f/m/d)105-2024

Your tasks:

  • use of process-based modelling for drought and heat stress assessment through calibration and execution of the MONICA model
  • use of models for pest assessment, as well as compounding and concurring effects
  • assessment of management effects (e.g. irrigation) on crop production
  • contribution to documents collaboratively created, such as papers, documentation, and reports

Your qualifications:

  • University (MSc) degree in the field of Agriculture, Environmental science, Geosciences or related fields
  • programming experience in Python or extensive experience in another high-level programming language is a prerequisite
  • solid knowledge of crop stress physiology
  • extensive experience in the development and application of crop models at a large scale
  • record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals is an asset
  • experience with Git and GitHub and Linux environment is desirable
