Overview

As a Network Engineer supporting AFRICOM in Stuttgart, you will design and operate secure, highly available DoD networks while advancing automation and orchestration capabilities. You collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure mission readiness and performance across geographically dispersed sites. You will address complex routing, data center fabrics, and crypto-enabled networks, driving reliability, security, and scalable solutions. This role offers the opportunity to shape modern network operations through IaC and SDN/DevOps practices in a critical mission context.

Verantwortungsbereiche

  • Design, implement, and maintain reliable, scalable network systems
  • Configure enterprise routing and switching with DMVPN, MPLS Segment-Routing
  • Manage datacenter fabrics using Cisco ACI and Nexus platforms
  • Deploy and update Palo Alto and Cisco Firepower firewalls with centralized management
  • Administer Cisco ISE for secure access and Zero Trust support
  • Architect and maintain GEM One management infrastructure for HAIPE devices
  • Perform remote provisioning and key management for TACLANE encryptors via GEM One
  • Develop automation frameworks (Ansible, Python, REST APIs) to support SDA and IaC
  • Maintain core services (F5, Infoblox DNS/DHCP/IPAM)
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and single points of failure
  • Create a roadmap to mature DevOps practices and IaC (Terraform)
  • Gather metrics for performance tuning, fault discovery, and after-action reporting
  • Collaborate with operations to build automation use-cases and ensure rigorous testing/release procedures

Zentrale Anforderungen

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline OR 11+ years of specialized technical experience
  • Minimum 5 years of practical network engineering experience in mid-to-large scale enterprise or military environments
  • Strong programming/scripting ability (Python, Go, or PowerShell)
  • Hands-on experience with automation/orchestration tools (Ansible, VMware Aria Suite, ServiceNow)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
  • DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II baseline certification (e.g., Security+ CE)
  • U.S. Citizenship and Active Top Secret clearance with SCI
