To contribute to an inclusive, welcoming and well-organized learning environment by supporting the effective operation of the Leipzig International School Library. The Library Assistant helps create a positive learner experience by ensuring that library resources, spaces and services inspire reading, inquiry and lifelong learning across the school community.
Working closely with the Whole School Librarian, the Library Assistant supports the day-to-day operation of the library. Together, they ensure learners and staff have access to high-quality resources, engaging library spaces and services that promote reading, inquiry and lifelong learning. The Library Assistant contributes to library programs and initiatives that enrich the learner experience while maintaining an organized, welcoming and inclusive learning environment.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Issue, return and renew library resources using the library management system.
  • Organize, shelve and maintain library collections to ensure resources are accessible, accurate and well presented.
  • Catalog, process and prepare new print and digital library resources.
  • Support learners and staff in locating, accessing and using library resources.
  • Maintain library records and support the effective use of the library management system.
  • Assist with stocktaking, collection maintenance and shelf reading.
  • Create engaging displays, themed collections and resource guides that promote reading, inquiry and library engagement.
  • Promote information literacy and academic honesty by helping learners locate, evaluate, use and acknowledge information appropriately, including the preparation of Works Cited lists.
  • Supervise the library before school, during break times and after school, as required, helping to create a welcoming, safe and purposeful learning environment.
  • Support the planning and delivery of Book Week, author visits, reading initiatives and other library events throughout the year.
  • Provide general administrative support to ensure the efficient operation of the library.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the role as directed by the Whole School Librarian.

  • A passion for learning, literacy and supporting learners of all ages.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with learners, colleagues and families.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively as part of a collaborative team.
  • A proactive, flexible and solution-focused approach to work.
  • Confidence using digital technologies and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Experience providing administrative support.
  • Experience working in a library, school or customer service environment is desirable.
  • Experience working within an international and diverse learning community is an advantage.
