About lemon.markets
Our mission is providing better opportunities to invest in capital markets. By empowering FinTechs and Banks to offer investment products, we help create financial well-being for their customers. In pursuit of this goal, we strive to open 100 million securities accounts within Europe in this decade.
lemon.markets builds infrastructure for financial services and technology companies powering the next generation of investment products. From enabling a FinTech to launch their first investment product, over allowing e.g. a Neobank to embed investing into their product to bringing investing into a completely new context. Our API-first infrastructure makes launching an investment product customer-centric and compliant. We abstract all complexity for our partners through a well documented API, a self-service customer operations portal and operating in a clear regulatory framework. Enabling partners to launch in weeks, not months.
We have experienced first hand that brokerage infrastructure is broken. Building an investment product used to be highly expensive, challenging and cumbersome. We ease this pain by shielding our partners & their customers from the underlying complexity – and with that, we make investing more accessible to everyone. Because thatâs exactly what we enjoy, going to places nobody else dares and solving hard problems. This not only creates tons of value when done right, but attracts the smartest minds – because outlier companies are built by exceptional (& diverse) people like you.
Your Mission:
Together with the General Counsel (whose deputy you will become), you are the first point of contact for our founder Max, the companyâs management board and all departments for all legal matters that arise in a commercial enterprise in general and in an investment firm in particular. Your work will be generalist, and you will advise on a wide range of different areas of law, and banking/financial services law is just one part of it. You will also advise on company law, labour law, administrative law and, of course, general civil law and contract law.
But your mission goes beyond this. Youâll have the opportunity to design flexible, creative and out-of-the-box thinking, yet legally compliant solutions and processes to realise our company’s vision. Developing new ideas and delivering proposals for their implementation, driving innovation (also outside of legal) – all whilst being proactive. You are so much more than just âthe lawyerâ. You are a provider of solutions.
Here at lemon.markets, we value ownership so you will help shape its further development in a crucial position with a high degree of responsibility and freedom, as well as high visibility to senior management. You will work together with an outstandingly experienced team of colleagues and will benefit from a very personal and human mentoring.
You will:
-
Oversee the legal aspects of developing and improving financial products, from initial planning to final implementation, addressing legal challenges at every project stage.
-
Own and drive legal projects from start to finish, taking full responsibility for their success from day one.
-
Draft and review contracts with various vendors and service providers, while also developing and refining the companyâs standard contracts.
-
Stay updated on legislative, regulatory, and case law changes, proactively communicating relevant updates to teams within and outside the legal department.
-
Propose and implement measures to swiftly and effectively incorporate new legal requirements into existing product offerings, ensuring full compliance.
You will be successful in this role if:
-
You have gained relevant experience as a lawyer. You are a fully qualified German lawyer (Volljurist ), having passed both state exams (Staatsexamen ) with at least 7.5 points each and have worked for at least 2 years post qualification.
-
âGrowing Investing Opportunitiesâ excites you. We operate in a highly regulated environment and therefore having worked prior in a Fintech or financial service provider (banking, asset management or brokerage) would be preferable and would give you a head start.
-
You enjoy building from scratch and enjoy taking part in the product development process.
-
You are ready and willing to take ownership. âThis is not my job!â is not part of your vocabulary – you identify problems, take initiative to take them on and challenge the status quo. You work autonomously and are able to steer workstreams efficiently.
-
You have a collaborative mindset. Working together as a team and sharing knowledge comes natural to you.
-
You enjoy explaining complicated legal matters in simple words and strive to enable others to get the full picture of what we do. You can do that fluently in both German and English (further languages welcome!).
How we take care of you:
Competitive compensation package:
We will offer you a mix of cash and stock options based on your appetite for upside.
Make a real impact:
Shape the experience for our customers and us alike. Decide on tools, processes and our go-to-market while building, learning and growing together.

We value focus time. Encouraging everyone to minimize fixed meetings and leverage asynchronous communication.
Build your perfect setup:
Mac/Linux, Mechanical Keyboard, Screen. These are not expenses but investments. Please tell us what is needed to make you productive, and we will take care of it.
Hybrid work:
We all believe that in – person collaboration is still an integral part of working together, but offer flexibility to work from home across Europe. We work at least 4 days a month onsite & have regular team offsite.

We take your personal development seriously. This means that we make sure to constantly mentor and challenge you, so you can reach the next level.

Whether you have a family or a passion that you want to follow on the side. We want to offer you a setting that fits your current stage in life.
