The position is based at the Institute of Political Science and supports the newly established Leuphana Centre for Cooperative Security (LCCS), aiming to develop a research profile at the intersection of political psychology, negotiation research and security studies.

Research Responsibilities

Develop an innovative and internationally visible research agenda that examines the psychological mechanisms underlying political negotiations in security‑related contexts such as diplomacy, mediation, peace, conflict, deterrence, and crisis bargaining. Combine quantitative methods (e.g., multivariate regression, quasi‑experiments), qualitative approaches (e.g., archives, interviews, document analysis), and computational techniques (e.g., text and discourse analysis of political communication).

Publish in peer‑reviewed outlets, secure externally funded projects, and communicate research results to the public and non‑academic stakeholders.

Teaching Responsibilities

Offer electives and methods courses in bachelor and master programmes in political science; supervise theses and doctoral training. Develop research‑based teaching methods and contribute to programme development. Courses are primarily taught in English; excellent command of written and spoken English is required.

Qualifications

  • University degree in psychology, political psychology, or a discipline relevant to the position.
  • Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
  • Emerging research agenda with peer‑reviewed publications and a convincing plan for future research.
  • Teaching experience in political psychology or negotiation analysis at bachelor level, preferably at master level.
  • Experience in obtaining or managing externally funded research projects.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.

Appointment Details

The junior professorship (pay grade W1) is established within the Leuphana Centre for Cooperative Security and is initially limited to a period of three years, with the possibility of extension for an additional three years following a positive academic evaluation. Depending on long‑term funding, a tenure‑track may lead to a permanent W2 position.
