Team Lead - Data Science in Berlin

LSI is supporting a large international organisation that is continuing to invest heavily across its Data & AI capabilities.

As part of this growth, they are looking for an experienced Team Lead – Data Science to join their Berlin-based Data & AI organisation.

This is a senior leadership position with a clear progression path. You will initially take responsibility for a team of experienced Data Scientists, with the opportunity to transition into leadership of the wider Berlin Data Science function.

The existing team is technically very strong, and the focus of this hire is not simply technical leadership. The organisation is looking for someone who can bring Data Science closer to the business, develop the team and ensure Data Science and AI initiatives are solving genuine business problems.

The Role

You will initially lead a team of approximately 5–7 Data Scientists, working with a wider Data Science organisation of circa 18 people.

The position will combine people leadership, Data Science expertise and significant interaction with stakeholders across the wider business.

Over time, there is a clear opportunity to take increased responsibility across the wider Data Science function.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop and support a team of experienced Data Scientists
• Build a strong understanding of business challenges and translate these into practical Data Science and AI solutions
• Act as the bridge between technical teams and senior business stakeholders
• Bring a pragmatic and outcome-focused approach to Data Science initiatives
• Help strengthen the connection between Data Science teams and the wider organisation
• Support the development and adoption of modern AI and Machine Learning capabilities
• Create an environment where highly technical individuals can develop, collaborate and deliver effectively
• Work closely with other Data, AI, Engineering and Product teams across the organisation
• Take increasing leadership responsibility as the Data Science function continues to develop

What We're Looking For

• Strong professional background within Data Science and Machine Learning
• Previous experience leading, managing or developing Data Scientists
• Strong understanding of both traditional Data Science and modern AI approaches
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Commercial and business-focused mindset
• Hands-on and pragmatic approach to leadership
• Genuine interest in developing and supporting people
• Experience with Generative AI / LLM technologies would be beneficial
• Fluent English; German language skills would be beneficial but are not essential
