Main Purpose
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of High Voltage Electricians at the 100 Civil Engineering Squadron, Royal Air Force Mildenhall, United Kingdom. The primary purpose of this position is to install, modify, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair high/low voltage electric power controlling equipment and/or high voltage distribution lines above 600 volts.
- Installs, modifies, tests, repairs, and maintains transformers, converters, regulators, cables, switches, circuit breakers, mechanical and electronic systems, and other circuit elements found in substations.
- Installs, modifies, connects, inspects, and repairs overhead and underground electrical distribution lines.
- Troubleshoots distribution circuits and generating and controlling equipment.
- Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
- Uses and maintains various hand and power tools and test equipment such as oscillators, meggers, phase sticks, phase rotation meters, digital test equipment, and cable locating and fault finding equipment.

Knowledge and Experience Required
- Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, layout, and complete maintenance or repair work needed for high and low voltage equipment and lines; and of high voltage electrical equipment and distribution lines such as transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, control systems, series and parallel circuits, line loading, line losses.
- Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory, instruments used in shop, and trade practices; and of troubleshooting and locating defects and trouble spots.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices.
- Skill in using and maintaining electrical tools and test equipment such as oscillators, phase sticks and rotation meters, digital test equipment, fault finding equipment, ampmeters, voltmeters, meggers, graphic recorders, dressing tools, wire tongs, wire tong supports, insulated tension links, tie sticks, and insulated hoods/covers and tools.
- Ability to use electrical drawings, blueprints, circuit diagrams, and electronic schematics.
- Ability to install, modify, test, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain high voltage electric power-controlling equipment and/or distribution lines without more than normal supervision.

- Hours of work: Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization's flexible working policies.
- Will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules, and regulations.
- Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
- May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee.
- May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
- Position may be coded as mission essential.
- A 6-month probationary period will be required.
- Overtime may be required.
- May be required to travel overnight to US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Individuals may be required to work through their lunch break in the event of an emergency.
- All on call duties should be understood as part of the job, but cannot be guaranteed.
- Position requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical which will include but not limited to determining the ability to discern colors and contrasts, and the ability to work under adverse environmental conditions.
- The work will require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate driver's license is required for the position.
- Visually checks the work of contractors for compliance with contract specifications on new construction.
- Must be able to satisfactorily obtain/maintain an applicable UK Security Clearance.
- May be required to obtain/maintain a Government Purchase Card (GPC) for ordering of material and tools in accordance with current directives.
- Attend job related courses/training as required and directed by management.
- May be required to participate in local disaster, accident and/or contingency exercises.
- Required to maintain appropriate certifications in accordance with UK qualification standards.

Applicants who have a minimum of five years consecutive residency in the UK are considered for this position; however, those who do not meet this criterion will be considered on a case-by-case basis. All successful applicants will require a security clearance.
Please note pre-appointment security clearance requirements may delay start date. Proof of identification in the form of a photo ID will be required, for example a driving license or current passport. This position may have certain restrictions to US citizens due to the Status of Forces Agreement.
