Main Purpose
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Engineers at the 100 Civil Engineering Squadron, Royal Air Force Mildenhall, United Kingdom. The primary purpose of this position is to perform inspections and surveillance of difficult and complex structures, operations and maintenance activities involving sophisticated mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems and equipment. The work includes various duties involving many different and unrelated processes and methods requiring ingenuity and skill to resolve a broad range of problems. Assignments usually involve responsibility for analyzing, selecting, and adapting appropriate methods from a wide range of alternatives. Employee assesses unusual circumstances, evaluates operations, equipment and activities, and applies qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques. The decision regarding what needs to be done depends upon the analysis of the problems involved in each assignment. The employee exercises seasoned judgment and skill to interpret considerable, incomplete, or conflicting data.

Knowledge and Experience Required
Applicants must demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge of construction inspection practices and procedures involved in the inspection of building materials, workmanship, utilities the installation of systems; and the practical methods and techniques of engineering principles relating to complex construction practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and structural aspects of major construction projects.
- Knowledge of inspection and safety practices and procedures in the construction industry.
- Knowledge of engineering and architectural plans and specifications to read and interpret construction requirements.
- Knowledge of construction trades, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Other Important Information
Hours of work: 0800-1630. Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization's flexible working policies. Will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules, and regulations. Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance. May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee. May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training. Position may be coded as mission essential. A 6-month probationary period will be required. Overtime may be required. May be required to travel overnight to US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
Other significant facts pertaining to this position are:
- It is highly desired that the incumbent hold HND/HNC/BTEC, City and Guilds, NVQ, or equivalent qualifications in an appropriate discipline, together with a minimum of five year's work experience in the trade. A Bachelor's degree is not required.
- Anglian Water Certification, higher pressure jetting, sewage plant working, unvented hot water, and Gas Certification are desirable.
- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. A valid CAT B driver's license is required for the position.
- The position requires the knowledge of numerous regulations and codes of work.
- From time to time, various courses must be attended to keep up to date with new practices, materials, and safety legislation.
- Work may frequently require travel away from the normal duty station.
- Required to operate a two-way handheld radio and/or mobile phone.
- Must be prepared to undergo immunization required for persons working on sewage systems.
- May be required to wear personal protective equipment when performing on-site inspections.
