FILM AND SMART SURFACE SOLUTIONS (FSSS)
Our newest division capitalizes on emerging trends in displays and in-mold electronics in the automotive industry. It combines our extensive offering of specialty films for the industrial and automotive industries with our developing portfolio of conductive and non-conductive inks. The combination of these products allows us to create a formed, structurally rigid three-dimensional part that’s decorative with circuit pathways and enhanced electronic features to enable the human-machine interface in an automobile.
Job Purpose
The Applications Engineer will be responsible for developing applications knowhow for product evaluation, material testing and characterization, and prototyping. In addition, this Applications Engineer will provide applications and technical support to global customers for Film & Smart Surface Solutions business.
As a key member of the Film and Smart Surface Solutions (F&SSS) Team, the Applications Engineer will be responsible for leading new In-Mold Electronics (IME) products testing activities, developing applications knowhow for product evaluation, material testing and characterization, and prototyping. In addition, this Applications Engineer will provide applications and technical support to global customers.
Job Responsibilities
- With minimal oversight, works to develop new test methods and technologies to test our products in line with the Company’s marketing direction for specific customers or market segments.
- Investigate, and experiment with new technologies or ideas and modify the test to meet the application and customer requirements.
- Perform internal screening tests to assess performance of product prototypes for new applications.
- Lead development and validation of test vehicles and test methods for characterization of materials for specific applications.
- Demonstrate process feasibility and performance of Film & Smart Surface Solutions materials to customers and partners by performing assembly, performance and reliability testing and failure analyses on internal as well as external test vehicles.
- Plan and execute the tests to evaluate mechanical, thermal and electrical reliability of our products.
- Calibrate research and test equipment to ensure dependable research results.
- Work with components, equipment vendors, and assembly houses to develop integrated solutions for customers.
- Report project progress; publish technical papers and make conference presentations as needed.
- Work closely with Product Management and R&D team to establish priorities, plan and execute projects to support customers towards product approvals and launching new products
- Work across functional lines with quality, process engineering for scale up and testing of new products.

Requirements & Qualifications
The role would suit candidates from a variety of different backgrounds. Practical work experience within the automotive industry in a production environment would be advantageous, along with experience within a quality orientated role.
We are open to applications from recent graduates interested in starting a career in the films and electronics industry. Relevant degree subjects would be materials science or electronic engineering, additional knowledge of plastics or printed electronics would be highly beneficial.

Salary of £32,000 to £40,000 depending on relevant work experience and qualifications
