Head of Risk in München

A fast-growing international group is looking for a Head of Risk to take ownership of risk and internal control across its businesses. As part of the governance, risk and compliance leadership, you will give senior management a single, reliable view of the group’s risk position, built on a lean framework that scales and meets German governance requirements.

You will set the standards, help the business apply them and act as an informed challenger, while operational leaders remain accountable for their own risks.

The role:

• Give leadership a consolidated, forward-looking view of group risk using key indicators, scenarios and quantified impact where useful, and make sure it shapes planning, budgets and major decisions.
• Build the group’s enterprise risk management approach from the ground up, including escalation paths and reporting that allow issues to be caught early.
• Develop a common risk language, assessment method and governance cycle that operational leaders can adapt to their own areas.
• Lead a proportionate internal control programme focused on company-wide and critical-process controls, setting standards, reviewing management assessments and tracking remediation.
• Clarify responsibilities between your function, specialist compliance teams and internal audit.

What you’ll need:

• A background building risk or control frameworks in a growing, international environment and linking them to planning and performance management.
• Deep grounding in enterprise risk management, internal controls or risk governance.
• Some experience managing a small team, with a readiness to stay hands-on.
• The credibility to turn complex risk issues into clear recommendations and to challenge senior leaders when it matters.
• A pragmatic mindset, including using digital tools and AI to simplify GRC work and sharpen reporting.
• A collaborative approach with finance, audit and operational colleagues.
• Excellent English; German is a strong advantage.
• Integrity, sound judgement and a genuine belief in risk-informed decision-making.
