The Institute for Mathematics in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Heidelberg University invites applications for a
Full Professorship (W3) in “Pure Mathematics” (f/m/d)
to be occupied as of winter semester 2025/26.
We are looking for exceptional mathematicians in Geometry and Topology, whose research area is, for instance, geometric group theory, differential geometry, symplectic geometry, metric geometry, or geometric topology.
The appointed candidate is expected to participate in the research station “Geometry & Dynamics” and, in particular, to be actively involved in the Heidelberg Experimental Geometry Lab (HEGL).
Additionally, the candidate should actively contribute to existing and new research networks and collaborations within the framework of Heidelberg University’s excellence strategy and to play a visible role in securing third-party funding. In particular, the candidate is expected to contribute to the Excellence Cluster STRUCTURES. There is also the possibility to participate in the CRC/TRR 191.
Excellent research work, documented by relevant publications, is a prerequisite for the appointment.
Participation in academic self-governance and teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses within the study programs of the faculty is also expected.
Prerequisites for an application are (in accordance with Article 47, Paragraph 1 of the Higher Education Law of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg) a university degree, a qualified Doctorate, pedagogical aptitude, which is usually proven by teaching experience, and (in accordance with Article 47, Paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg) a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship, or equivalent qualifications.
Applications with the usual documents (curriculum vitae, list of publications, description of scientific interests, record of teaching activities – as a single PDF-document) should be submitted electronically, quoting the keyword „W3GeomTop“ by 06.01.2025 to: Dekan der Fakultät für Mathematik und Informatik, Prof. Dr. Otmar Venjakob, Universität Heidelberg, Im Neuenheimer Feld 205, Mathematikon, D-69120 Heidelberg, Germany (email: ).
