Role Description
The Founding CTO is a full-time, remote leadership role responsible for defining and executing MedSpan’s overall technology vision and strategy. This role involves designing the technical architecture of the global healthcare network platform, overseeing end-to-end software development, and ensuring scalability, security, and compliance in international healthcare contexts. The Founding CTO will collaborate closely with the founding team to translate business goals into technical roadmaps, lead product development cycles, and prioritize features that deliver value to patients, providers, payers, and partners. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing engineering resources, establishing development standards and processes, reviewing technical designs and code, and coordinating with external technology partners where needed. The role also includes setting IT governance, risk management, and data protection practices, monitoring performance and reliability, and iterating on the platform based on user feedback and market needs.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in Software Development and Architecture, with experience designing and building secure, scalable, cloud-based platforms.
- Proven ability in Product Development, including translating user and business requirements into technical solutions and managing product lifecycles.
- Demonstrated skills in IT Strategy, aligning technology roadmaps with organizational goals and healthcare market dynamics.
- Experience in Project Management, leading cross-functional technical initiatives, setting timelines, and delivering complex projects on schedule.
- Background in healthcare, health tech, or highly regulated industries, with familiarity in data privacy, security, and interoperability standards (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, HL7/FHIR) beneficial.
- Track record of building and leading small, high-performing engineering teams, including hiring, mentoring, and creating inclusive, collaborative working environments.
- Comfort with early-stage startup environments, including hands-on involvement in coding, architecture decisions, and rapid iteration.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with non-technical stakeholders, partners, and international collaborators.
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
