Key Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Fully understand the extent of electrical works to be carried out & equipment to be operated.
  • Safe executing of approved Electrical Works in line with Mercury ESSOW.
  • Carry out switching activities in line with approved switching plan & system boundaries – signed by Senior Electrical Engineer, SAP & APs completing the task.
  • Work under and follow the direction of the SAP.
  • Full compliance with the Mercury COHE / LOTO procedure
  • Responsible for the final approval of the Electrical Safety Work permit at the “Point of Work”.
  • Ongoing monitoring & auditing of permitted electrical tasks to ensure compliance and raise issues to SAP.
  • Ensure that all cables & equipment to be energised/isolated have been tested, inspected and is safe to energise/isolate
  • Ensure Electrical strength test or insulation resistance test has been completed on cabling or equipment within 24hrs of planned energisation.
  • Responsible for the completion of the White glove process
  • Close out of permits.
  • Cancel permits should a hazard or safety issue arise.
  • Ensure familiarisation training received from vendor/Original Equipment Manufacturer
  • Approval of LV Request Form
  • Switching of LV systems only
  • Complete proof of isolation testing (Live Dead Live) & authorising proof of isolation form for LV systems.

Essential Criteria for the Role:

  • Has a minimum of six (6) years experience working in the construction / maintenance industry.
  • Qualified electrician awarded the National Craft Certificate as part of the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent for the region or degree in Electrical engineering.
  • Be fully conversant with the National Rules for Electrical Installations for the jurisdiction.
  • Jurisdictional mandatory Electrical training
  • Or another suitable electrical award, equivalent to Level 6 or higher on the National Framework of Qualifications.
  • Have completed the following Mercury electrical safety courses;
    • City & Guilds LV Electrical Safe Principals
    • Control of Hazardous Energies
    • Basic Electrical Awareness
  • City & Guilds Accredited or equivalent MV/HV (<38Kv>
  • First Aid & Contact Removal training
  • Fire Safety Training
  • Equipment Familiarity Training by Vendor
  • Testing & Verification Course or proven competency in verification & testing processes for pre & post- energization (assessed by SAP)
  • Competency in operation of switchgear, knowledgeable on systems under their control
  • Experience with interlocks, grounding systems
  • New Hires to Mercury shall have completed a City & Guilds accredited/ assured Authorised Person's course within two years of starting. They must schedule and complete Low Voltage Electrical Safe Principles Training on the next available course.
