Responsibilities Review the allocation of functional signalling design requirements and ensure compliance of design documents through traceability. Deliver functional signalling design artifacts (schematics, specification documents, test reports, etc.) that meet project requirements, budgets, schedules, industry standards, and internal processes. Provide functional design documentation, including system requirements and architecture, interface control, scheme plans, control tables, block design, and technical analyses. Identify gaps between customer requirements and existing company products. Define development and procurement needs based on customer requirements and identified gaps. Maintain and utilize the lessons-learned database to record design errors, process and tool inefficiencies, and related corrective actions. Perform verification activities on issued documents, in accordance with the V&V Plan. Support the configuration and HW/SW design of signalling systems through oversight of functional design and produce or manage version control sheets as applicable. Technical skills, qualifications and professional experience ~ Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering or Information Technology Qualifications/ University Degree or Equivalent Technical Background. ~3 to 5 years of professional experience in Signalling functional design ~ Very good knowledge of German (B2+) and English (C1). ~ Sound knowledge of German railroad signalling and control systems. ~ Confident with Microsoft Office, planning software (MS Project or Primavera) and requirements management systems like IBM DOORS or Polarion. Desired skills/knowledge ETCS Architecture & Levels: Familiarity with ETCS Levels (NTC, 1, 2, 3), onboard and trackside equipment (e.g., ETCS OBU, RBC, balises). ERTMS Specifications: Strong understanding of ERTMS/ETCS standards and documentation (e.g., Subset-026). Railway Signalling Principles: Knowledge of signalling concepts, interlocking systems, block systems, train safety, and operational rules. Functional Specification Development: Ability to write clear, testable functional specifications aligned with safety and performance standards. System Integration & Interfaces: Understanding of ETCS subsystem interfaces with other signalling systems (e.g., interlocking, GSM-R/FRMCS). Software Lifecycle (V-Model): Familiarity with the V-Model or similar lifecycles used in safety-critical systems. Programming & Scripting (Desirable): Skills in C, C++, Python, or MATLAB/Simulink for prototyping, simulation, or automated testing. We look forward to receiving your application!
