Category Strategy Consultant – Primary Substation Services (m/f/d)

Project Background
Provide strategic consulting support for the further development of the Primary Substation Services category across multiple grid operating companies, with a focus on:
- Civil and structural engineering
- Electrical installation services
- Steel construction
Key Objectives
- Optimize costs across the entire category
- Ensure capacity availability and supply security in line with increasing grid expansion volumes
- Harmonize procurement, lotting, and supplier structures
Procurement and Sourcing Strategy
- Develop and evaluate suitable procurement and contracting models, including:
- Framework agreements
- Project-based contracts
- Hybrid sourcing approaches
Lotting and Bundling Strategies
- Design smart lotting concepts
- Develop bundling and regionalization strategies to improve efficiency, competitiveness, and supply security
Supplier Strategy and Development
- Enhance the supplier strategy, including:
- Strategic supplier relationship management
Capacity and Value Chain Optimization
- Develop concepts for long-term capacity assurance
- Identify opportunities to optimize the level of vertical integration and value creation across the supply chain
Market Intelligence and Benchmarking
- Conduct market analyses, benchmarking studies, and best-practice assessments
- Derive actionable recommendations for category transformation and performance improvement
Strategic Planning and Governance
- Develop strategic scenarios, target operating models, roadmaps, KPI frameworks, and management decision papers
- Support category leadership through strategic sparring and advisory services
The assignment will be performed exclusively as an independent consulting service without operational responsibility or line-management authority.
Required Skills and Experience
Strategic Category & Procurement Management
- Extensive experience in designing, transforming, and implementing procurement and category strategies in complex organizations
Energy and Infrastructure Sector Expertise
- Proven track record within the energy, utility, grid, or infrastructure sector
- Experience supporting large-scale network expansion and capital investment programs is highly desirable
Sourcing and Contracting Models
- Deep expertise in:
- EPC and Turnkey models
- Smart Lotting approaches
- Framework agreements
- Hybrid procurement concepts
Supplier and Capacity Management
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Supplier segmentation and governance
- Capacity planning and assurance
Benchmarking and Transformation
- Strong capability in:
- Benchmark and best-practice analysis
- Development of target-state concepts
- Business case preparation
- KPI and performance management frameworks
Executive Sparring
- Background in strategy consulting or as a senior industry expert
- Proven ability to advise and challenge senior management and category leadership at a strategic level
- Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
