I'm working on an exciting opportunity for a Head of Data to join a growing business, leading its data function and helping shape how data is used across the organisation.
This is an opportunity for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness and the ability to lead a team. You'll take ownership of the data function, help establish priorities and ensure that data delivers meaningful value across product, sales, marketing and the wider business.
The business has a team of six in place and plans to grow this to 12 by the end of 2027. You'll play a key role in that development, setting direction, supporting the team and ensuring the data function evolves alongside the organisation.
The role
As Head of Data, you'll be responsible for the strategic direction and effective delivery of the company's data capabilities. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business, translating commercial requirements into a clear data roadmap and ensuring the team focuses on the work that matters most.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and developing a team of six, with plans for further growth.
- Defining priorities and shaping the data roadmap around business needs.
- Overseeing the development of the data warehouse and the integration of multiple source systems.
- Providing technical direction across data architecture, data modelling and the semantic layer.
- Working with data from approximately 25 source systems, including marketing and internal business applications.
- Supporting the development of dashboards and reporting capabilities to improve business visibility and decision-making.
- Partnering with product, sales and marketing stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver valuable data solutions.
- Managing expectations, challenging requests where necessary and ensuring the team remains focused on the highest-priority initiatives.
- Maintaining a balance between technical delivery, strategic planning and team leadership.
What we're looking for
We're keen to speak with candidates who have a strong background in data leadership and the confidence to take ownership of a growing function.
You'll ideally bring:
- Experience leading a data team or owning a data function.
- A strong understanding of data warehousing, data architecture and data modelling.
- Familiarity with Amazon Redshift, Apache Superset or comparable data warehouse and BI technologies.
- An understanding of semantic layers and how raw data is transformed into reliable, business-ready information.
- Experience working with multiple source systems and complex data environments.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge, influence and say no when needed.
- The ability to prioritise effectively in a demanding, fast-moving environment.
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of how data supports product, sales and marketing.
- Experience with dashboards, particularly marketing dashboards, and digital application flows.
Experience in B2B technology or e-commerce would be advantageous, although candidates from other industries will also be considered. We're more interested in the right combination of leadership, technical understanding and commercial thinking than a particular sector background.
