Join us as a Director of Engineering (m/f/d) in our MaaS Unit, for an exciting 1-year (limited contract) mission to shape the future of mobility!
About your teams
MOIA has many great teams organized into business units and domains. As a Director of Engineering , you will take technical leadership for one domain in the MaaS Unit , overseeing four to six teams. The MaaS Unit focuses on providing mobility as a service (e.g., ridepooling) via direct API integration or our native, deeply-integrated white-label app.
You will collaborate with Product- and Design-Directors to support your teams in balancing technical excellence, customer focus, and reliable delivery of product increments.
This role includes both technical leadership and people management. You will also be part of the technical leadership team with other engineering Directors, Chapter Leads, Technical Leads, Staff Engineers, and the C-Level.
The engineering teams use modern languages and cloud services, responsible for discovering what to build next, and managing the full software lifecycle, including testing and operations (“you build it, you run it”).
What you will do
- Proactively Collaborate: Engage with distributed teams within your business unit to ensure alignment and synergy.
- Influence Roadmap: Work with the Product Director to shape and influence the product roadmap aligned with company goals and customer needs.
- Lead with Servant Leadership: Inspire and guide engineering teams using a servant leadership approach, fostering support and empowerment.
- Empower Teams: Support a bottom-up tech culture, enabling teams to own their work and set strategic guardrails.
- Assure Quality: Ensure high quality standards across systems, including code reviews, testing, and validation.
- Conduct Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Strategic Contribution: Collaborate with peers across functions to shape and communicate company strategy.
- Culture Development: Help shape and nurture MOIA’s tech culture to be innovative and inclusive.
- Support Cross-Unit Projects: Contribute to autonomous driving and licensing projects leveraging your expertise.
- Team Staffing and Budgeting: Plan headcount, participate in hiring, and manage budgets.
What will help you succeed
- Interest in helping highly self-organized, cross-functional teams work towards shared goals.
- Strong customer focus, product development interest, and good technical understanding.
- Deep knowledge of digital products and modern software engineering at scale.
- Understanding of organizational setups, agile methods, and frameworks.
- Strong leadership experience (delegation, mentoring, empowerment, servant leadership).
- Experience growing and enabling diverse multinational teams.
- Experience collaborating with stakeholders across functions, including compliance.
- Ability to navigate between startup and enterprise cultures.
