Senior Software Engineer – Observability

The MongoDB Customer Observability Team is a diverse group of contributors working together to help our users manage MongoDB at global scale. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Dublin to tackle challenges within the Observability space and drive engineering excellence across both dimensions of observability.

Responsibilities

• Design, write and maintain observability code and features across the Observability platform.
• Contribute to, lead, and ship complex technical projects.
• Investigate large‑scale distributed production issues and collaborate with team members to improve the codebase.
• Work with customers and support engineers to resolve escalations and participate in our on‑call rotation.
• Mentor junior team members and mentor others in technical discussions.

Success Measures

• In 1 month: familiar with the team’s domain and contributed minor tasks.
• In 3 months: designing, developing projects and shipping tickets regularly.
• In 6 months: ramped to medium+ projects, proactive codebase improvements, and on‑call support for customers.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience as a backend or full‑stack engineer.
• Backend engineer or full‑stack developer with a bias toward backend, willing to take on frontend tasks.
• Written backend systems in a compiled language (Java, C#, Go, etc.).
• Experience designing and architecting modern, scalable web applications.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting production issues in distributed environments and at the database diagnostic/operation level.
• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures and their time and space complexity.

Nice to Haves

• Worked with distributed event streaming platforms like Kafka or WarpStream, or event processing platforms like Flink.
• Previous work developing and writing observability tools.
• Experience in TypeScript, React, and Node.js, particularly maintaining an ecosystem of dependencies.
• Knowledge of database internals and tuning mechanisms, particularly indexing. xayajpt
