About the FHSEThe University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) at the University of Luxembourg brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social and educational sciences. People from across 20 disciplines are working within the Faculty. Along with the disciplinary approach a very ambitious interdisciplinary research culture has been developed. The faculty\’s research and teaching focuses on social, economic, political and educational issues with the common goal of contributing to an inclusive, open and resourceful society.Your roleThe PhD candidate will be associated with the Institute for Teaching and Learning, Department of Education and Social Work at the University of Luxembourg. The person will be part of a team in the dynamic organisational context of a growing, globally connected research university.The doctoral candidate will work with Prof. Dr. Janne Fengler on questions related to contexts and processes of learning and teaching. Potential candidates have an MA in education (or related fields) and are highly motivated to contribute to the national, international and comparative knowledge base in the areas of experiential education, teacher professional development, didactics and/or links between formal and non-formal education.Responsibilities:Independent work on developing a PhD proposal, collecting data, and coordination of publishing activitiesCollaboration and support of general activities in the above-mentioned academic subject areasNetworking with local and international stakeholdersApplication for and organisation of third-party fundingTeaching in the study program Bachelor en Formation Pédagogique and possibly further study programs at the Department of Education and Social WorkSupport in administrative tasksYour profileMA or equivalent in Educational Sciences preferably with reference to one of the following subject areas:experiential education / outdoor educationpedagogical professionalisation / teacher educationdidactics and methodology in adult education or in pedagogical work with children / teaching-learning-researchformal and nonformal education / social inequality, social exclusion, social participationExperience in academic research and command of quantitative and / or qualitative empirical methods; openness to mixed methods researchReadiness to collaborate with local and international stakeholders and in outreach activitiesDemonstrated teaching experienceAbility and willingness to work both independently and as part of a teamAbility to meet deadlines and a positive, proactive attitude to balance research, teaching and administrative activitiesFluency in English is required; German, Luxembourgish and / or French will be considered an assetWe offerMultilingual and international character.
