Today MSC is looking for a Legal Counsel to expand its Dispute Resolution / Litigation Team.
YOUR IMPACT
As Legal Counsel in the Dispute Resolution department, you will take an instrumental role in resolving disputes and litigating matters across multiple jurisdictions for the world’s largest container shipping company in a great team. You will:
- Under the supervision of the Legal Director of Dispute Resolution, oversee and manage the company’s uninsured disputes (out of court, in litigation, arbitration, or other alternative dispute resolution proceedings) globally and across internal functions.
- Advise management and business units on day-to-day legal issues concerning disputes.
- Devise litigation strategy, conduct legal research, review, interpret and apply applicable statutes, case law, and industry regulations.
- Instruct and oversee external counsel and represent the company before governmental and regulatory authorities along with external counsel.
- Collaborate closely with other legal functions in the company, including claims, compliance, M&A, competition, and contracts, to ensure alignment in our disputes strategy.
- Work closely with the company’s worldwide agencies network to stay up to date on potential and existing litigation risks and to gather the relevant information effectively.
- Introduce and communicate best practices for dispute resolution, participate in the development and review of company’s policies, procedures, and practices.
- Manage assigned or delegated special projects and tasks in an efficient, economical manner, keeping in mind our company’s goals and objectives.
YOUR BACKGROUND
- University degree in law from an accredited university.
- Licensed to practice law and member in good standing of a bar association (as applicable).
- Between 1and 5 years’ experience in dispute resolution post-qualification working in a multinational company, a top tier law firm, or a government agency.
- Very good analytical and problem-solving skills. You are an excellent communicator and you strive to provide concise cutting-edge business-tailored legal advice.
- Team player with a proactive attitude: you enjoy working in teams and you work well under pressure. You are able to manage cases independently while keeping the relevant managers and stakeholders informed.
- Prior in-house experience is welcome but not essential.
- You have excellent business proof fluency in spoken and written English as well as good English legal writing skills; proficiency in French and other languages is an asset.
