• Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior System Engineer to support the design, implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of enterprise virtual workplace platforms.

The role focuses on Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD), Citrix Provisioning, Citrix Net Scaler / ADC, Windows Server infrastructure, automation, software deployment, troubleshooting, security hardening, and platform lifecycle management.

The position is part of a terminal services environment that provides virtual desktops and applications through enterprise‑scale Citrix platforms.

The service portfolio includes Hosted Personal Desktop / VDI, Hosted Shared Desktop, and Hosted Applications.

The role requires strong technical expertise, structured documentation skills, and close collaboration with architecture, operations, service management, network, security, and platform teams.

Responsibilities

• Advise internal stakeholders, customers, and management on Citrix platform topics, technical improvements, operational risks, and infrastructure decisions.
• Implement, operate, and further develop enterprise Citrix platforms based on Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD).
• Plan, implement, and continuously optimize CVAD environments, including Delivery Controller, VDA, Store Front, Citrix Provisioning, and related infrastructure components.
• Support architecture and infrastructure projects, including design activities, migration projects, release changes, capacity expansions, platform standardization, and security hardening.
• Provide technical support to architects during design, migration, and transformation initiatives.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including architecture concepts, technical concepts, security concepts, operating manuals, installation guides, standard documents, and best‑practice documentation.
• Contribute to security concepts based on modernized IT baseline protection / IT‑Grundschutz requirements.
• Support 3rd‑level troubleshooting for complex incidents related to CVAD, Citrix Provisioning, Net Scaler / ADC, Windows Server, profile management, GPOs, Active Directory, DNS, PKI, and network‑related components.
• Operate and further develop Citrix Provisioning Services (PVS), including v Disk structures, versioning, performance tuning, error analysis, high availability, PVS farm management, image management, and reverse imaging.
• Create, test, and roll out software packages for Citrix environments through existing SCCM / MECM / MCM infrastructure.
• Support device management, software management, and patch management activities.
• Ensure the integrity, stability, and compatibility of software packages within Citrix images.
• Develop and maintain automation solutions using Power Shell, Desired State Configuration (DSC), and Ansible.
• Support the transformation of existing automation solutions toward target architecture standards.
• Create, analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize Group Policy Objects (GPOs) in Citrix environments.
• Improve GPO structures with regard to performance, security, maintainability, and operational stability.
• Implement security hardening measures and contribute to platform security improvements.
• Analyze performance bottlenecks and support load balancing, scaling, and capacity concepts.
• Support testing, quality assurance, and lifecycle management activities for Citrix platforms.
• Support Citrix cumulative updates, major upgrades, version testing, technical change assessments, and standardized release processes.
• Coordinate technical activities with operations, service management, network, security, and platform teams during projects and operational handovers.
• Required Qualifications
• Completed IT‑related vocational training, university degree, or comparable professional qualification.
• ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent proof of IT service management knowledge.
• Citrix Certified Associate – Virtualization (CCA‑V) certification.
• German language skills at C1 level.
• English language skills at B1 level.
• Candidate profiles must include nationality information.
• Required Professional Experience
• At least 1 year of experience performing project activities using agile methods.
• At least 3 years of experience contributing to IT concepts, installation instructions, operating manuals, technical guidelines, and security concepts based on modernized IT baseline protection / BSI IT‑Grundschutz in regulated or public‑sector‑related environments.
• At least 3 years of experience implementing and operating geo‑redundant Citrix environments.
• At least 3 years of experience operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing Citrix Provisioning, including high availability, PVS farm management, image / v Disk management, and reverse imaging.
• At least 1 year of experience managing and optimizing SCCM / MECM / MCM infrastructure, including device, software, and patch management.
• At least 3 years of experience operating and administering Microsoft Server operating systems, Terminal Services, Active Directory, and Group Policy Objects.
• At least 3 years of experience administering and automating Citrix environments using Power Shell scripting.
