Purpose of Position
Assist the Work Control office by fulfilling key requests and making keys.
Responsible for troubleshooting and performing locksmith duties including repairs and installations related to interior and exterior of doors and locks, including but not limited to security devices, door and panic hardware, weather-stripping, automatic door openers/closers.
All duties completed includes: planned maintenance, routine, priority, urgent and emergency service requests.
Plan, prioritize and oversee keying security master security planning and facility keying.
Primary Responsibilities
- Fulfill key requests: including duplication of keys, verification of request validity, and verifying appropriate security access. .
- Completes campus planned and reactive work order requests in a timely and efficient manner.
- Plans and prioritizes work accordingly which can include unlocking doors, performing repairs, changes, and maintenance on all existing hardware (i.e. closers, hinges, door handles, stops, strike plates, and/or other related hardware), locksets, and cylinders.
- Performs re-keys to existing cylinders to meet the needs of the university community while maintaining building keying schedules.
- Collaborates with other locksmiths and locksmith specialists regarding campus repairs and records work within CMMS (SchoolDude).
- Frequently monitors potential security and inappropriate access risk to campus facilities at large.
- Maintains the security and cleanliness of the locksmith shop on a weekly basis.
- Monitors potential risks to key boxes, keying systems, and pinning documents in digital & hard copy formats. Provides feedback and/or reports regarding the ordering of parts, tools, and supplies.
- Provides accurate detailed reports regarding master key systems and consults with other locksmith and locksmith specialists, Key Control, and other department personnel regarding requests returns issuance or lock changes.
- Performs visual checklist and database audits of key and key tag inventory.
- Responds to emergency locksmith calls outside normal working hours (24/7).
Qualifications
- Preferred Vocational/Technical training In Locksmith Trade and 4 years of experience in Locksmith Trade.
- Valid Driver’s license required.
- Acceptable equivalency of Locksmith Vocational/Technical with 2 years of related work experience in Locksmith trade.
- Basic computer experience/skills with knowledge of Microsoft office products.
- Must possess the ability to safely operate all types of hand/power tools, trade-specific equipment, ladders, scaffolding, vehicles, key/sign cutting machines, as well as any other related equipment.
- Requires ability to perform with medium heavy and maximum exertion.
- Requires physical ability to bend, stoop, kneel, walk, stand, perform work while standing on ladders or overhead, reach, push, pull, etc.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, follow verbal and/or written instructions, have steady hands & patience to work with small parts, have a good mechanical and mathematical aptitude, use sound judgment, as well as ability to work with confidential information or sensitive situations.
