Position: Public Speaking Instructor, Communication (Creating a Pool for Anticipated Openings) Location: NIU – DeKalb, IL (ZH 915). This is a pool-based, part-time or full-time temporary instructor position in the Department of Communication. Appointments are for up to one year, renewable based on program needs. Overview The Department of Communication invites applications to create a pool for advance- and short-notice hiring based on program need. Instructors will teach fundamentals of oral communication and hold office hours. This position is temporary (non-tenure track). Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teaching load will be no more than 12 credit hours per fall semester and no more than 12 credit hours per spring semester. Instructors will teach in the classroom and/or online using a standard course syllabus across multiple sections. Other duties may be assigned. Minimum Required Qualifications Master’s degree in Communication or a closely related field A minimum of two years’ experience teaching Public Speaking Additional Requirements: None Preferred Qualifications PhD in Communication or a closely related field Experience teaching at an institution with a student body similar to NIU Experience teaching public speaking Physical Demands Summary Typical instructional/classroom management Appointment and Compensation Details
