apply appropriate theory as a basis for providing first aid, nursing care, intervention and referrals. /li liEvaluate nursing care provided and modify the plan of care as necessary. /li liImplement Board policy with respect to the exclusion and readmission of students in connection with certain infectious and contagious diseases (e.g., Tuberculosis). /li liMaintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with state and federal law, and Board of Education policies. /li liDevelop individual health care plans (ICHP) with specific goals, nursing diagnoses, and interventions for integration into students’ individualized educational plans (IEP). /li liIntervene as guided by the nursing care plan to implement nursing actions that promote, maintain or restore health, prevent illness and effect rehabilitation. /li liServe as a member of school teams as the designated health care professional (e.g., Crisis Teams, PPT, Section 504). /li liProvide guidance, counseling and health education to students, parents and employees as necessary. /li liReport to parents, school district personnel, physicians, clinics, and others as needed to meet student health needs. /li liProvide instruction and training regarding the Heimlich Maneuver, Blood‑Borne Pathogen training, the school district's Emergency plan, and care for students with disabilities. /li liContribute to nursing and school health through innovations, practice, and participation in research, including narrative and statistical reports. /li liProvide medical assessment to school district employees as requested. /li liProvide health education to students as requested. /li liNotify the appropriate person or agency of a student's injury/illness in accordance with Board policy as necessary. /li liConsult with parents, students, and school district staff to interpret health and developmental assessments. /li /ul h3Additional Duties /h3 ul liPerform other related tasks as assigned by supervisors or other administrators. /li /ul h3Knowledge, Skills and Abilities /h3 ul liMedical terminology, anatomy, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, first aid, illnesses and injuries, nutrition, and related areas. /li liDiagnose and provide care for ill or injured students. /li liConvey appropriate medical information to school district staff or medical professionals to ensure proper maintenance in the school setting. /li liPerform basic arithmetic operations as needed for the position. /li liUse personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, the Internet, Outlook, electronic mail). /li liProblem‑solve job‑related issues. /li liWork with a diverse group of individuals and students with special needs. /li liFollow oral and written orders from supervisors, administrators, physicians, and coordinate work with principals, teachers and others. /li liDescribe orally and in writing school health services provided, issues and concerns regarding school health. /li liEstablish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work. /li /ul h3Safety Requirements /h3 ul liAdhere to all applicable professional safety standards and practices in the nursing field, including federal and state law and Occupational Safety and Health regulations. /li liImplement Board Policy regarding Blood‑Borne Pathogens and other Board policies regarding the medical or health care of employees and students. /li /ul h3Travel Requirements /h3 ul liFrequent travel between schools may be required. /li /ul h3Physical and Mental Demands /h3 ul liWork in a standard school building environment. /li liExposure to body secretions, blood‑borne pathogens, medicine and medicinal supplies, illnesses and diseases. /li /ul h3Qualifications Profile /h3 ul liAny combination of education, licenses, certifications and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to: /li liBachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or related science area, with coursework in growth and development, health assessment, public or school health, crisis intervention and health education. /li liMaster’s degree in related field preferred. /li liMust meet qualifications of a school nurse as defined in state regulations. /li liSuccessful experiences working with pediatric population, preferably in a community or school setting, desirable. /li /ul h3License or Certificate /h3 ul liRegistered professional nurse (R.N.) as defined by state law, currently licensed in the state. /li liCurrent certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). /li /ul h3Education and Experience /h3 ul liRegistered Professional Nurse (RN) License; /li liBS or BA degree in nursing or related field from an accredited college or university; /li liFive years’ pediatric/adolescent experience; /li liCurrent/updated physical assessment skills (preferably pediatrics); /li liCPR/AED certification; /li liBSN or MS in nursing with prior school nurse experience; /li liBackground in community health and multicultural/diverse experience; /li liNCSN certification preferred; /li liFluency in Spanish and English preferred. /li /ul h3Continuing Education Requirements /h3 ul liA school nurse must participate in at least ten hours of board‑approved professional development activities or programs every two years. /li liCPR/AED certification may also be required for this position. /li /ul h3Compensation /h3 pPer Health Care Employees contract.
