The Austrian Red Cross is seeking an experienced and motivated Protection, Gender, and Inclusion (PGI) Advisor to support the regional AutRC Women\’s Empowerment Program in East Africa. This position shall ensure that the program is guided by strong PGI expertise regarding PGI knowledge, skills and cultural sensitivity in line with AutRC\’s commitment to localization and sustainable impact.
The PGI Advisor will strengthen the capacities of partner National Societies in Ethiopia, Uganda, and Rwanda to apply a gender-transformative approach at institutional, programmatic, and community levels, providing strategic guidance, technical advice, and hands-on support to foster inclusion and equality.

REGIONAL GENDER ADVISOR
TEMPORARY CONTRACT FOR 1 YEAR WITH THE OPTION TO EXTEND
Aufgabengebiet
- Support Partner Red Cross Societies in Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Uganda to strengthen their PGI capacities at institutional, programmatic, and community levels within an active and successful regional project.
- Provide technical guidance on promoting women\’s empowerment and gender equality across key sectors such as WASH, livelihoods, and Emergency Medical Services.
- Deliver trainings, mentoring, and coaching for senior management, staff, volunteers, and community members, fostering change with cultural sensitivity and awareness.
- Contribute to the strategic planning of AutRC\’s long-term PGI engagement in East Africa in close collaboration with the AutRC Team Leader Africa and the Regional Program Coordinator.
- Represent AutRC in East Africa on PGI-related matters, building networks and partnerships with Movement partners and relevant national, regional, and international stakeholders.
- Support the design and development of new programs and projects (including logframes, budgets, and narratives) and contribute to identifying funding opportunities for ongoing and future AutRC initiatives in the region.
Profil
- Relevant university degree or equivalent education.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Gender Studies, Women\’s Economic Empowerment, or Rural Livelihoods is highly desirable.
- Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in managing gender-focused programs or portfolios.
- Solid understanding of institutional, legal, and policy frameworks at national and local levels that affect the status of women in the target countries.
- Proven work experience in East Africa.
- Demonstrated skills in project and financial management.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure and in diverse, multicultural teams.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Strong commitment to humanitarian and development principles, with high cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity.
