MT Aerospace is a global leader in the aerospace industry. As a subsidiary of the international technology group OHB, we develop, manufacture and test essential components for major space programmes, including the European Ariane 6 launch vehicle, the American Space Launch System (Artemis mission) and other international launch systems. Our components are also used in satellites, spacecraft for lunar and Martian missions, space refuelling stations and passenger aircraft. Our customers include globally active companies and system integrators such as ESA, NASA, Airbus, ArianeGroup and Boeing.Using manufacturing technologies that are unique worldwide, we produce high-performance products from metal and fibre composites that are uncompromisingly focused on performance. These include large load-bearing structures, cryogenic tanks, lightweight components, and fuel and pressure tanks that combine maximum load-bearing capacity with minimum weight. We owe our success to the initiative and passion of our employees, who stand for innovation and progress. Our team of around 600 employees at our headquarters in Augsburg, in Bremen and at the European spaceport in Kourou (French Guiana) works every day to actively shape the future of space travel.
Space. Far away for most - soon very close for you. Become part of an industry of visionaries and pioneers and make a valuable contribution as a Head of Logistics (m/f/d) to help the European launcher Ariane and other international launchers take off.
Your Tasks
Our logistics operations are set to expand significantly. We are looking for an experienced manager with a clear, direct leadership style and high standards for efficient logistics in line with industrial standards, who can reliably manage day-to-day operations and further develop our organisation to handle significantly higher material flows. You combine conceptual strength with hands‑on operational presence and will shape the future direction of material flows, processes and organisation. You will consistently implement changes and lead the teams with clear expectations and transparent decision‑making.
- You will have overall responsibility for goods receipt, warehousing and stock levels, internal transport, production supply, dispatch and customs. You will also manage waste disposal logistics and its interfaces.
- You will manage two logistics team leaders and develop the skills of managers and staff. You will be present on the shop floor, make decisions in the event of deviations, issue specific instructions where necessary and monitor their implementation.
- You ensure reliable and safe operations at the main plant and at outsourced warehouses. You take into account the specific requirements for large components, frozen goods and hazardous substances during storage, transport and provision.
- You develop a cross‑site material flow and capacity plan for the ramp‑up phase. You plan floor space, storage and order‑picking concepts, buffers, containers, transport and production supply based on robust volume models.
- You establish logistics engineering as a core competence and implement improvements using appropriate lean methods. In doing so, you ensure a stable supply of materials, minimise unnecessary handling, maintain manageable stock levels and optimise cost‑effective processes.
- You will develop a control system based on figures, data and facts. You will introduce key performance indicators and shop floor management, address variances with the teams and review the impact of agreed measures.
- You will further develop the logistics processes in SAP R/3 and WM from a technical perspective. Through IT and SCM Excellence, you will improve posting quality, data utilisation and standards, and assess appropriate digitalisation and automation.
- You will represent the logistics function in projects and coordinate interfaces with planning, production, quality, procurement and facilities. You will manage dispatch and customs as part of an end‑to‑end process chain.
Your Qualifications
- You will ideally have studied logistics, materials management, industrial engineering or a related subject. A comparable vocational qualification, combined with further training and extensive relevant practical experience, is also acceptable.
- You have several years’ management experience in the logistics department of an industrial company. You have managed operational teams whilst simultaneously developing material flows, processes or sites from a strategic perspective.
- You are proficient in industrial warehouse and production logistics, material flow planning, warehouse layout, and capacity and container concepts.
- You possess very strong practical and systematic knowledge of SAP R/3 and WM. You are able to professionally assess and improve inventory and warehouse processes, posting logic, material movements and interfaces.
- You use figures, data and facts to inform your decisions. You have established or effectively developed key performance indicators and shop floor management, and have demonstrably implemented improvements using Lean methods.
- You combine strategic thinking and business acumen with a hands‑on approach at the operational level. You can develop a strategic plan, get to the root of operational problems yourself and give clear instructions.
- You lead with authority, develop managers and communicate clearly with other departments. You reconcile differing interests to reach sound decisions and follow through on their implementation.
- You are familiar with the key requirements relating to shipping, customs, health and safety, and specialised stored goods, and are able to effectively lead the team in these areas. A good command of English rounds off your profile.
- You enjoy making an existing organisation industrially scalable and using SAP, data and digitalisation in a targeted manner to achieve this.
