Software Systems Engineer for Satellite Software (m/f/d)

We develop distributed on-board software for the next generation of satellites. Almost every aspect of a modern satellite depends on software. Software turns mission objectives into behaviour: it controls the spacecraft, connects its equipment, manages data, handles failures and enables autonomous operation far beyond the reach of immediate human intervention. As a Software Systems Engineer, you will shape this behaviour before it becomes architecture and code. You will translate operational needs and system-level requirements into a clear, consistent and verifiable Software Requirements Baseline. Working with system, software and verification engineers, you will use requirements, scenarios and models to establish a shared understanding of the intended behaviour.

Your Tasks

• Understand the intent behind operational concepts, stakeholderneeds and system requirements
• Develop and maintain top-level requirements for the spacecraftsoftware system
• Structure complex behaviour into functions, interfaces, modes,scenarios and data flows
• Define interactions between distributed processors, avionicsunits, payloads and ground systems
• Use behavioural and interface models to test assumptions andidentify gaps
• Maintain traceability from system requirements to softwarearchitecture and verification
• Bring the relevant disciplines together to resolve unclear,conflicting or changing requirements
• Support the refinement of the Requirements Baseline intodetailed software specifications

Your Qualifications

• A degree in computer science, software engineering, electricalengineering, aerospace engineering or a related discipline
• Several years of experience in embedded software, distributed softwarearchitecture or software-intensive systems engineering with a goodunderstanding of hardware/software interaction
• Practical experience with requirements-based verification
• The ability to structure complex technical information andexpress it through requirements, scenarios or models
• An interest in working across system, software and verificationdisciplines
• A strong focus on quality, as well as excellent teamwork andcommunication skills, combined with a passion for your work
• Very good written and spoken English

Useful Additional Experience

• Experience in some of the following areaswould be helpful, but we do not expect you to bring all of them:
• Requirements engineering for spacecraft, avionics or otherregulated embedded systems; ECSS, DO-178 or comparable engineering andassurance processes
• Requirements management with DOORS, DOORS NextGen, Polarion ora comparable tool
• Behavioural modelling with SysML, UML, Capella, state machinesor sequence diagrams
• Interface specification and end-to-end analysis for distributedsystems
• Fault detection, isolation and recovery, redundancy ordegraded-mode operation
• Real-time operating systems and on-board communicationtechnologies
• Knowledge of German

You will initially work on defined areas ofa requirements baseline coordinated by an experienced lead engineer. You willreceive support in learning our space-specific methods, tools and processes,and can progressively take responsibility for larger areas of the spacecraftsoftware specification.
