Mechanisms, Mechatronics and Robotics Engineer (m/f/d)

This position combines hands-on engineering responsibility for internally developed mechanisms and robotic systems with Technical Supply Management (TSM) activities for externally procured subsystems. Candidates are expected to actively contribute to both areas throughout their career development. The role focuses on the development and technical management of challenging mechanism and robotic systems for space applications, offering the opportunity to work on the complete lifecycle of highly demanding aerospace products. As the department is currently pursuing and preparing several potential projects in the field of space robotics, experience or a strong interest in robotics, mechatronics, motion control and autonomous systems is considered a significant advantage.

Your Tasks

InternalDevelopment of Mechanisms and Robotics Systems

• Define and analyze technicalrequirements and develop concepts for space mechanisms, mechatronicsystems and robotic applications.
• Support the completedevelopment lifecycle from concept definition through verification anddelivery, considering performance, manufacturability, reliability, costand schedule constraints.
• Coordinate technical activitieswith multidisciplinary engineering teams, including Mechanical,Structural, Thermal, Electrical and Optical Engineering.
• Perform requirement flow-down,interface management and technical budget management at subsystem andequipment level.
• Take technical ownership ofassigned mechanism or robotic equipment and support its developmentthroughout the project lifecycle.
• Select, specify and sizemechanism and drivetrain components such as motors, sensors, bearings,gear stages and transmission elements.
• Evaluate mechanical designs,engineering drawings, manufacturing concepts and tolerance allocationswith respect to functionality, manufacturability and reliability.
• Perform technical analyses,trade-offs and simulations to support engineering decisions regardingperformance, manufacturability, reliability, verification and cost, usingtools such as MATLAB/Simulink and MSC ADAMS.
• Support Assembly, Integrationand Test (AIT) activities through active participation in integration andtest campaigns, troubleshooting support and assessment of verificationresults.
• Support the development and evaluation of future robotic technologies and applications for space missions. Contribute to technical proposals, internal R&D activities and the continuous improvement of departmental methods, processes and technologies.

TechnicalSupply Management (TSM) of External Developments

• Act as Technical Supply Manager(TSM) for externally developed mechanism, mechatronic and roboticsubsystems. Serve as a technical interfacebetween suppliers, project teams and engineering disciplines throughoutthe project lifecycle.
• Define technical requirements,interfaces, technical budgets and acceptance criteria for subcontracteddevelopments, support their proper flow-down to supplier level andcontribute to the closure of related technical issues.
• Review and assesssupplier-proposed concepts, analyses, designs, manufacturing documentationand verification evidence to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Monitor technical progress,requirement compliance, risks, non-conformances and mitigation activitiesthroughout the supplier development lifecycle.
• Support the preparation,execution and close-out of technical reviews and milestones, includingSRR, PDR, CDR, QR and TRR activities.
• Coordinate and supportverification, qualification, acceptance and integration activities, includingparticipation in major subsystem test campaigns when required.
• Support the successful deliveryof compliant, verified and fully documented subsystems in accordance withproject requirements.
• Provide concise technicalreporting and recommendations to project management and internalstakeholders.

Your Qualifications

• Successfully completed degreein Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronicsor a comparable technical discipline.
• 0-5 years of relevantprofessional experience in the development of mechanical, mechatronic,robotic or aerospace systems, including internships, research projects orstudent activities.
• Good understanding ofmechanism, mechatronic and/or robotics engineering principles.
• Experience or strong interestin robotics, motion control, kinematics, autonomous systems or roboticmechanisms is highly desirable
• Strong understanding ofmechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, engineeringdrawings, geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing,tolerance allocation and technical budget management, with the ability toevaluate designs regarding functionality, manufacturability, reliabilityand performance.
• Knowledge of mechanism anddrivetrain components such as electric motors, sensors, encoders,bearings, gear stages, shafts and transmission systems, including theirselection, sizing and performance assessment. Knowledge of tribology,lubrication concepts and mechanical performance assessment is consideredan asset.
• Understanding of systemsengineering principles, including requirements management, interfacemanagement, verification and qualification.
• Experience with engineeringanalysis and simulation tools, preferably MATLAB/Simulink and/or MSCADAMS.
• Interest in hands-onengineering activities, including hardware integration, testing,troubleshooting and participation in Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT)campaigns.
• Ability and willingness to taketechnical ownership of assigned equipment and subsystems throughout thedevelopment lifecycle, including the progressive assumption of TechnicalSupply Management responsibilities for external suppliers.
• Experience with CAD tools isbeneficial for design assessment, communication with design teams anddesign reviews; however, the role is primarily focused on conceptdevelopment, engineering analysis, technical coordination and system-leveldecision-making rather than detailed CAD design activities.
• Strong analytical,communication and teamwork skills, together with a structured andsolution-oriented working style. Fluent in English, both writtenand spoken; German language skills are considered an asset.
