Overview
In this role you lead the bottom unit development for On’s pinnacle performance products, collaborating with On Labs in Zurich and Tooling teams in Vietnam to deliver high-quality footwear components. You apply materials, mold construction and manufacturing knowledge to solve design constraints with a focus on biomechanics, durability and manufacturability. You guide concept-to-prototype work, review CADs and advise on plastics injection molding, cost, and molding capabilities. You drive tooling process improvements and ensure alignment with product specifications and manufacturing capabilities, contributing to On’s sustainability and performance mission.
Verantwortungsbereiche
- Lead bottom unit development for On’s performance products
- Provide design and construction solutions using materials, mold construction and manufacturing knowledge
- Evaluate and improve designs for manufacturability and durability by reviewing 2D/3D CADs, prototypes, and test feedback
- Ensure alignment with product specifications and manufacturing capabilities
- Advise on cost, design, and molding capabilities of injected components in the bottom unit (plastics injection molding)
- Collaborate with Asian counterparts and mold shop teams on tooling revisions and manufacturing concerns
- Assist development, product management, and design teams with tooling questions or issues
- Evaluate current workflows and implement process improvements to maximize efficiency and testing progress
Zentrale Anforderungen
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field
- Minimum 5 years experience in footwear engineering with development and production involvement
- Technical knowledge of materials, mold construction, and manufacturing processes relevant to footwear
- In-depth knowledge of plastics injection molding and cost/design/molding capabilities
- Experience with 2D/3D CADs (Rhino a bonus) and evaluating CADs for manufacturability and durability
- Experience in 3D modelling and rapid prototyping
- Proven project management, costing, and working under complex constraints
- Experience applying biomechanical performance principles to footwear bottom unit design
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally with designers, developers, product management, and testing
- Experience working with international manufacturing partners on tooling revisions and manufacturing concerns
- Strong communication skills to guide and support stakeholders
- Excellent time management with multiple deadlines
- Willingness to travel to Asia at least 2 times per year
