About the job

The Director of Software & Digital Engineering is responsible for leading the Software & Digital Engineering team across a range of medical device categories. This role involves coordinating with multidisciplinary R&D, project management, and product management teams to deliver the business strategy and ensure customer satisfaction. The Director will help define strategy, translate it into software and digital roadmaps, and drive the team toward operational excellence.

The role also includes overseeing the software and digital product lifecycle, managing change and design controls, as well as verification and validation activities for existing and next-generation products. A key responsibility is to manage the development infrastructure, ensure compliance with medical standards, and maintain operational efficiency.

Set the software and digital vision in alignment with the business strategy, develop software and digital technology roadmaps, and define the objectives of the software and digital engineering organization.

Oversee development teams, manage resources and budgets, establish development processes and procedures, and provide oversight and mentoring to engineers.

Manage software and digital development teams, working closely with multidisciplinary R&D, project and product management, and clinical teams to ensure alignment with customer needs.

Apply broad engineering knowledge to guide the software and digital engineering organization in a regulated development and manufacturing environment.

Engage in continuous efforts to improve efficiencies in development, processes, and operations.

Identify and implement best practices, methods, and technologies to enhance organizational effectiveness.

Hire, train, motivate, retain, and develop engineering staff.

Ensure compliance with medical device regulations (FDA, MDR) and internal policies.

Perform other duties as required.

About you

BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent required; MS or PhD preferred.

10+ years of product development experience with a successful track record of delivering products in the medical device or other regulated industries.

5+ years of managerial experience.

Experience in aligning software and digital technology strategies with business objectives, with the ability to set a vision for digital transformation and innovation.

Broad and in-depth knowledge of software engineering, including software lifecycle management, design patterns, architecture, GUI design, modern programming languages and constructs, cloud infrastructure, data engineering (cleaning, processing, analysis, and insight generation), and AI (machine learning and deep learning methods).

Expertise in multiple programming languages and platforms (e.g., Kotlin, Java, Python, C#), database management, test development, characterization, verification, test method validation, test system definition, and test strategy.

Demonstrated track record of team leadership in Connected Healthcare Solutions and Software Application Delivery, with a strong focus on data privacy and cybersecurity across multiple geographies.

Deep understanding of medical device regulatory requirements and applicable standards.

Ability to contribute technically when necessary.

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, with a business-driven approach.

Ethical person, with positive outlook and pragmatic attitude.
