Job Title: Mechanical Lead (Freelance)
Job Description:
We are seeking a Mechanical Lead for a freelance position in Basel, Switzerland, for an exciting 12-month+ contract in the pharmaceutical industry. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in mechanical systems, experience in the pharmaceutical sector, and fluency in both English and German.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, implementation, and commissioning of mechanical systems for pharmaceutical facilities.
- Oversee the mechanical design, installation, and maintenance of HVAC, piping, and clean utilities systems within the pharmaceutical environment.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (including electrical, automation, and process engineering) to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems.
- Act as the key point of contact for all mechanical-related inquiries throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards (e.g., GMP, FDA, ISO).
- Review and approve designs, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and contractors.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Manage and monitor project progress, ensuring all milestones are met on time and within budget.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external contractors for procurement, installation, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during both the construction and operational phases of the project.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Lead within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences industries.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including HVAC, clean utilities, piping, and HVAC systems in GMP-regulated environments.
- Solid experience in managing mechanical engineering projects from design through to commissioning.
- Fluency in both English and German (spoken and written).
- Experience in managing contractors and external vendors.
- In-depth knowledge of local and international standards (e.g., GMP, ASME, and ISO standards).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to resolve technical problems quickly and effectively.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
