We are currently looking for professional freelancers to join our pool of passionate English Teachers for long-term work assignments in the 2026/27 school year. We would like to get to know you and your deployment preferences!

Your tasks:

  • Delivering creative, fun-based English lessons utilising the Oskar curriculum (course books provided for most courses, but some courses require teachers to develop their own material).

  • Teaching 30-60 min courses on a regular weekly basis during the Berlin school terms, preferably available to teach 5 to 20 hours a week between the hours of 9 AM and 6.00 PM.

  • Collaborating with Kita staff or working independently (at elementary schools or private homes) to create a safe and fun learning environment.

  • Supervising and encouraging children during class.

  • Using your electric energy and enthusiasm to inspire a life-long love for English.

Oskar lernt Englisch has been offering English language courses for children between the ages of 2 and 12 in Kitas and Schools in Berlin since 1999. We aim to build confidence and familiarity with the English language by fusing structured English lessons with high-energy activities.

We hope to inspire and create an accessible environment for children to learn English in, combining the expert knowledge of fluent English speakers who are energetic, empathetic, and culturally diverse, with an adventure-packed environment. We don’t just want to teach English, but also make memories with new friends!

These are our requirements:

  • Very fluent English speaker (minimum C1 or above) with an accent that is easily understood by young learners.

  • 1-3 years of experience teaching English to children as a foreign language OR 3-5 years of working with young children in an educational setting.

  • A TEFL, TESOL or CELTA qualification, or a degree that can be related to this role, may be beneficial.

  • Freelance visa or unrestricted work access (i.e. the ability to work as a freelancer) in Germany.

  • A registered address in Berlin.

  • Preferably available to work 3 afternoons a week.

  • Commitment to a regular teaching schedule for the entire school year (September 2026 to July 2027, specifically) - no lessons are conducted during the Berlin school holidays.

  • Basic knowledge of German (A2).

Group interview will take place on October 1st.

** We will be unable to interview those who do not already have a valid working permit. If you are waiting to have your appointment for your permit, please let us know when it is scheduled for. Visas with the words "selbständige Tätigkeit nicht erlaubt" unfortunately do not allow the holder to work as a freelancer.

We know that teaching can be pretty demanding, which is why we do our best to accommodate and provide for your needs while you’re conquering the classrooms of Berlin! In addition to an incredible opportunity to connect with other international teachers, and a chance to explore the varied and exciting terrain that is Berlin with all of its beautiful locations, unique pockets of history and culture the city has to offer, we’ll also throw in a few perks:

  • Travel allowance
  • Seasonal bonuses
  • Substitute teaching bonuses
  • Up to 8 hours of paid teacher training, an opportunity to take part in classroom observations, and ongoing paid further teacher training throughout the school year.
  • Continuous support and coaching
  • Lesson plans and additional content provided (personalization and creativity encouraged)
  • Teaching kit and basic materials provided
  • A library of teaching resources at your disposal
  • Free teacher training seminars
  • Staff pizza and beer get-togethers
  • Potential to also work at our Oskar lernt Englisch Camps during school holidays!

The interaction with our class participants and the quality of our lessons are very important to us. That's why we want to use our recruiting process to ensure that you're equally as excited and responsible when it comes to teaching and engaging with children as we are. However, the interview isn't just about us getting to know you, but a chance for you to make sure we're the right fit for you too! Curious about the hiring process? Here's how it works:

  • A real person will read each and every application - we promise!
  • We’ll send you an email to let you know if we’d like to invite you to a video interview.
  • After signing up, you’ll get further information and instructions on what to prepare.
  • Take part in a engaging interview where you can show off your skills!
  • Following the interview, if we feel you’d be a strong candidate to join our pool of available freelance teachers, you’ll be invited to take part in a group practical interview at our office in Berlin. These will take place on 1 or 2 July 2026, from 9:30 to 13:00.
  • If we decide to work together, in-person training will be scheduled! Training sessions will take place on 15 or 22 July 2026, between 10:00 and 17:30.

We are looking for energetic, talented, motivated and creative individuals. Feel like this is the adventure you were looking for? Have any questions? We look forward to hearing from you.
