About the company:

I am recruiting on behalf of a fast-growing European clean energy business building battery storage projects across Germany and wider Europe. They are early stage, well backed and scaling quickly, with a leadership team from some of the largest names in battery and energy. Around 35 people today, with plans to be well over 60 within 12 months.

This is a client-side role. If you are currently on the contractor side and want to be the one setting the standard rather than the one being held to it, this is that move.

About the role

You will own the construction and infrastructure phase of the project portfolio. That covers everything from EPC contract kick-off through civil works, foundations, electrical installation and substation construction, all the way to commissioning and handover into operation.

You will steer EPC contractors and suppliers, own quality, safety, schedule and cost on site, and set the standards for how construction is executed as the portfolio grows. Because the business is at an early stage, you will be building the construction function rather than stepping into an existing one.

What you will do:

• Own construction delivery across battery storage and associated energy infrastructure projects
• Steer and manage EPC and general contractors from contract kick-off through to handover
• Oversee civil works, foundations, earthworks, electrical installation and substation construction
• Own quality assurance and technical compliance on site
• Take responsibility for health and safety oversight across all construction activity
• Manage schedules, budgets, cost control and variations, and escalat risk early
• Coordinate interfaces between civil, electrical and commissioning workstreams
• Work with permitting authorities, grid operators and external partners as required
• Support tender preparation, contractor selection and subcontractor evaluation
• Establish construction standards, processes and reporting for a growing project portfolio

What you will need:

Experience and knowledge:

• Degree in civil, electrical or construction engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• 7+ years delivering complex energy or infrastructure construction projects
• Proven experience managing EPC or general contractors, ideally from the client side, though strong contractor-side candidates are very welcome
• Technical understanding of civil works, foundations, electrical installation and substation construction
• Familiarity with German construction standards, contracting practice and permitting
• Demonstrable health and safety oversight experience
• Experience with battery storage is welcome but not essential. If you have delivered substations, solar parks, wind farms or comparable energy infrastructure, the transfer is straightforward
• Fluent German and English, both essential

• Strong contractor management, able to hold suppliers to account without losing the relationship
• Commercially aware, with a firm grip on cost, programme and variations
• Confident with authorities, contractors and senior internal stakeholders
• Structured, with the instinct to build process where none exists
• Comfortable in a fast-moving environment with a high degree of autonomy
