Founding AI Engineer (f/m/x)

Pactos is an early-stage B2B SaaS startup building the operating system for the external workforce industry. This market is huge – but dominated by manual processes, fragmented data, and high compliance risk. Our mission is to rebuild the entire system AI-first : from automated checks and document intelligence to smart matching and workflow automation. We’re looking for a Founding AI Engineer / AI Solution Architect who wants to design, build, and ship AI systems that are deeply embedded into a real product used by enterprises every day. This role is about being our AI ambassador and turning AI into leverage for customers and the business . Aufgaben Design AI-first product capabilities – Identify where AI meaningfully improves workflows (e.g. document processing, compliance checks, classification, scoring, matching, anomaly detection). ⚙️ Build production-grade AI systems – Develop, integrate, and maintain AI pipelines that are reliable, observable, and scalable – not just prototypes. Document & data intelligence – Work on OCR, NLP, embeddings, classification, extraction, and validation of complex, real-world documents. Ship fast, iterate faster – Move quickly from idea → prototype → production. Measure impact and continuously improve. Collaborate deeply with product & engineering – Translate real customer problems into AI-powered solutions. You think in systems, not isolated models. Lay the AI foundation – Define tooling, architecture, evaluation methods, and best practices that will scale with the company. Qualifikation 2+ years experience building applied AI / ML systems in production (startup or scale-up experience strongly preferred) Bachelor\’s or Master\’s degree in Computer Science, Physics, or a related quantitative field from a renowned university and outstanding performance Experience working with LLMs , embeddings, prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or agent-based systems Solid understanding of data pipelines , model evaluation, and monitoring, as well as recognizable skills in Python Ability to make pragmatic trade-offs between accuracy, latency, cost, and complexity Strong product intuition – you care about outcomes, not just models Entrepreneurial mindset: ownership, speed, and willingness to go the extra mile Fluent in German and English Benefits Attractive comp + ESOP: Competitive salary plus meaningful equity True Ownership: You’ll be among the first, well-experienced developers.
