Aircraft Mechanic 2 Sheetmetal - A&P or FCC License - Stuttgart, Germany

Responsibilities

The Sheetmetal/Structures Aircraft Mechanic AM2 performs and inspects aviation unit (AVUM), intermediate (AVIM) and depot maintenance on assigned aircraft. They assemble structural parts and components to meet requirements, perform structural repair, modification, and corrosion protection treatment with respect to original strength, weight, and contour to maintain structural integrity.

The mechanic assembles repairs using special fasteners and adhesives, utilizes jigs, fixtures, forms, and molds, and operates metalworking equipment and tools to form, cut, bend and fasten replacement or repair parts to damaged structures and components. They inspect and troubleshoot to determine causes of malfunctions, disassemble to the point of trouble, adjust, repair, realign, fabricate or replace defective components or assemblies, and incorporate authorized modifications and changes.

The role maintains and inspects tools and equipment, assesses damage to aircraft structural components, checks repairs for serviceability according to specifications and technical publications, treats corrosion using mechanical and chemical procedures, and handles hazardous waste and materials per environmental standards.

The mechanic posts entries and maintains maintenance and inspection records, inputs, validates and analyzes data processed to automated systems, clears and closes out completed maintenance discrepancies in the automated maintenance system, recommends methods to improve equipment performance and maintenance procedures, and prepares forms and records related to aircraft maintenance. Additional qualified duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Five (5) years of recent applicable aircraft maintenance experience.
• FAA A&P Certificate OR FCC License (Elements 1 & 3) required for hire.
• FAA A&P holders: minimum two (2) years aviation maintenance experience and two (2) years on the assigned MDS (CH‑47, UH‑60, AH‑64) within the last five (5) years.
• Without FAA A&P: must possess or obtain an FCC License (Elements 1 & 3) and meet three (3) years aviation maintenance experience, three (3) years rotary‑wing aircraft experience and two (2) years on the assigned MDS (CH‑47, UH‑60, AH‑64).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance, NAC‑I T1 Public Trust; US Citizenship is required for T1/CAC NACI clearance. Interim NACI approval required for deployment.
• Valid US Passport required for deployment to Germany; TESA approval (German Government) required if deploying to Germany with five years total aviation maintenance experience.
• Willingness to obtain an FCC License if necessary.

Knowledge & Skills

• Experience inspecting, replacing, modifying or repairing all required aeronautical type maintenance on structural, mechanical, and electrical systems assigned.
• Proficient in reading, applying, and interpreting technical data including schematics and engineering drawings.
• Skill in using common hand tools and measuring devices such as gauges, torque wrenches, scales, and TMDE.
• Knowledge of aircraft construction features, aerospace materials, and repair of metal, plastic, fiberglass, bonded honeycomb, and composite structural components.
• Experience with sheet metal layout techniques, shop mathematics, corrosion identification, removal, repair, and prevention, cleaning of metals, protective coating application, and hazardous waste handling.
• Technical assistance ability for customer regarding aircraft structural maintenance.
• Knowledge of quality, production, and supply processes required to perform job assignments.
• Operating basic sheet metal shop equipment (band saw, drill press, belt sander, shrinker/stretcher, floor shear, sheet metal brake, pan and box brake).

Physical Requirements / Working Environment

• Must be able to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
• Frequently lift parts and equipment up to 20 pounds; occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds.
• Must be immediately deployable to potential combat areas worldwide.
