Principal Designer (Team Lead)

Who we are:

Patient21 is a German healthtech company founded in 2019, headquartered in Berlin with an office in Sofia. It operates a hybrid model that combines digital healthcare solutions with a network of over 50 dental clinics across Germany.

At our clinics we use our in-house developed, comprehensive suite of SaaS tools designed to digitalize and optimize the entire patient journey and practice operations. Our platform covers everything from online booking to a proprietary practice management system (PMS), as well as tools for patient reviews and a custom-built content management system (CMS). These solutions seamlessly connect patients, practices, and practitioners, ensuring efficient workflows, better patient experiences, and scalable growth for healthcare providers. Recently we have made our tools available for external clinics as well.

Your mission:

We currently have a small but highly capable team of two senior designers, both deeply skilled and fully dedicated to some of our most important and complex projects.
As we continue to grow and develop new initiatives, we’re looking for a Principal Designer who can:

• Step in to handle other projects, while also helping the team maintain a cohesive design language across everything we do.
• Support bringing clarity, alignment, and strategic thinking, ensuring that every touchpoint — from product features to brand experience — feels like Patient21.
• We need a pragmatic designer who can understand how to calibrate resources wisely and focus on what really moves the needle.
• A principal-level contributor in a product-driven company.
• Communication is a key factor in this role, because in a startup environment, decisions are often made quickly and things move fast.
• It’s essential to be able to explain your reasoning clearly in the team and with stakeholders, and help the design team move forward with a shared understanding.

Your talent:

This is a hands-on role and ideally you:

• Can navigate a dynamic context, motivate others, and keep design thinking at the heart of product decisions .
• Have at least 5-7 years of experience with SaaS products or complex software layouts, and know how to create clean, functional, and delightful user experiences.
• If you also enjoy crafting beautiful landing pages and are happy to support marketing occasionally — for example, with campaigns or social media visuals — that’s a big plus.
• This role is not about rigid seniority levels — it’s about adding .

Our Figma files reflect the reality of our products: some are mobile-first, others are desktop-heavy, each with its own grid systems and naming conventions.
It’s not always 100% standardized — and that’s okay. That’s why we also motivate you to bring order where it matters.
