Position Details
Within the research group of PD Dr. Tim Conrad, located within the department Visual and Data-Centric Computing, we are offering a position starting November 1, 2026, on a full-time basis (39,4 hours per week), limited until December 31, 2027. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary will be based on remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.
Background & Context
In the DFG-funded consortium "Mathematical Research Data Initiative" (MaRDI), new and innovative strategies will be developed and established to make mathematical research data accessible and usable for the scientific community according to the so-called FAIR principles. Mathematical research data include databases for special functions or various mathematical objects, such as models and algorithms or even software tools. Together with the mathematical community, methods and tools will be developed in the individual subprojects of the consortium to implement the FAIR principles for mathematical research data.
Your Tasks
- Collaboration with the mathematical research community to foster a culture of reproducible, data-driven research
- Application of relevant domain knowledge and expert coding skills to the development of industrial-grade solutions—including proofs of concept (PoCs), minimum viable products (MVPs), and fully deployed solutions—and products such as platforms and frameworks
- Development and implementation of the technical infrastructure required to deliver and integrate services for the research community
- Development and implementation of workflows for data integration and processing
- Clear and efficient verbal and written reporting and presentation of development work
Your Profile
- Education: We require a MSc in Data Science with very good grades
- Experience and Knowledge: We expect experience in software development in Java/JavaScript, Python or C/C++ and hands‑on experience with reproducible real‑world data analysis / ML / DL, and model evaluation, e.g. for time‑series, images, forecasting, anomaly detection. Experience with natural language processing, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) would be a plus
- Languages: You need to have excellent communications skills (writing, speaking) and working proficiency in English
- Personality: We are looking a strong team player with affinity for research and a focus to see things working in practice. We expect methodical and conceptual strength and creativity
