At our Braunschweig site, we are looking to fill the following position in Department 1.4 (Gas Flow):

FPGA Developer

Remuneration Group 11 TVöD Bund - Two-year fixed term - Full-time

As part of the collaborative project ‘Development of a new reference for offshore wind measurements based on next-generation lidar measurements (ReLiNG)’, you will support Working Group 1.41 ‘Gas Properties & Hydrogen’ in the further development of the wind lidar system developed by the PTB. The main focus is on implementing a method for determining the wind turbulence index at high measurement altitudes.

Your activities will include:

  • Developing an FPGA design (Xilinx) for the transmission of measurement data via Ethernet (25 Gbit/s)
  • Implementing an RDMA transfer from the Ethernet card to the GPU of a Linux system
  • Assisting with the programming of measurement data analysis on the GPU
  • Participating in measurement campaigns using the PTB wind lidar

Your profile:

  • A completed degree (FH diploma/Bachelor’s) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a comparable subject
  • Sound knowledge and practical experience in FPGA development using VHDL/Verilog
  • Proficiency in the C programming language
  • Ideally, experience with Vivado or comparable FPGA-development environments
  • Knowledge of GPU programming, for example using CUDA or OpenCL, would be an advantage
  • A structured, independent and results-oriented approach to work
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • German and English (B2 level) language skills
