About the Role
Our client, a prominent infrastructure development company, is seeking an experienced Bridge Engineer to join their team in Queenstown, Eastern Cape . This critical role involves the design, analysis, and oversight of bridge construction projects, ensuring the structural integrity, safety, and longevity of vital transportation links. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of bridge engineering principles, materials, and construction methodologies. You will be responsible for undertaking detailed structural calculations, preparing design documentation, and providing expert advice during the construction phase. Collaboration with project managers, site engineers, and contractors will be integral to the role. Key Responsibilities
Perform structural analysis and design for various types of bridges (e.g., concrete, steel, composite). Develop detailed design drawings, calculations, and specifications for bridge construction. Ensure designs comply with relevant South African national standards and international best practices for bridges. Conduct site investigations and assessments of existing bridge structures. Provide technical support and supervision during the construction phase of bridge projects. Review contractor submittals, method statements, and quality control plans. Manage bridge engineering project components, ensuring delivery within scope and schedule. Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (geotechnical, transportation) to integrate bridge designs. Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and as-built documentation. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the team's technical development. Requirements
Master's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a bridge specialization. Professional registration as Pr. Eng. with ECSA is mandatory. A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in bridge design and construction. Expertise in bridge design software (e.g., MIDAS Civil, CSIBridge, SOFiSTiK). Strong understanding of bridge construction techniques, materials, and site supervision. Experience with seismic design and analysis for bridges, where applicable. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a project team. Willingness to travel to project sites within the Queenstown, Eastern Cape region and surrounding areas. Benefits
